toys for 7yo dd not into toys

dd likes crafts and books etc but isn't really into toys. She likes dolls but not playing with them the way my ds plays with his characters making up scenes etc, and she has loads. However I would like to get her some things to keep for bday and christmas and she has so much art stuff. Any ideas for toys or things that a 7yo girly girl might like - we have loads of lego etc and she has a passing interest but just isn't that into it. We got a melissa and doug stable and toy horses last year but she had little interest after a couple of days.

Bike - outdoor stuff
Tablet - games console
Craft stuff

Tigersteeth · 19/08/2017 22:57

My daughter got a table one year, with writing stuff, and loved it, a new bed with a den, and a set of special shelves for 'precious things' one year with some little things to arrange. She's not that into toys either, which does make her hard to buy for, I feel your pain!

ridingsixwhitehorses · 19/08/2017 22:57

she has all that.
I want to get her toys. Just don't know what.

This kind of shelf, I mean...

Board games?
Roller skates (or heeleys)?
Annual membership for somewhere?
Kit for a hobby (DD always commented on the personalised hoody an older girl at gymnastics had & is now the proud owner of one herself)
Books? One of DD's presents last Xmas was a trip to the book shop each school holiday. I probably would have taken her anyway but she has loved it.

Sewing kit

Tigersteeth · 19/08/2017 23:04

Oh!
Sewing machine? Kids or real, depending on sensibleness levels!
Ozobot?
Robot pony? (Ive forgotten the brand name, but we've got the dog and dinosaur and they've been great!)
Marble run?

ridingsixwhitehorses · 19/08/2017 23:06

sorry my has all that comment was for MrEBear.

Cheap proper camera?

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 19/08/2017 23:15

I bought these last year for my niece. She is a little older but thought they were fab
www.notonthehighstreet.com/thelittleboysroom/product/pom-pom-fairy-light-garland (you can probably get them cheaper than this)

Is she in to music? Can you get her a CD player or a karaoke machine?

Dogmatix34 · 19/08/2017 23:15

Typewriter?

Bonelessbanquet · 19/08/2017 23:20

What about the style lab kits?
DD loves baking so got her her own equipment in girly colours, also bought 'proper' felt tip pens so she can shade/colour properly.

It's so hard, I'm dreading Xmas already!

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 19/08/2017 23:26

For something to keep what about a lovely jewellery box.

MrEBear · 20/08/2017 00:25

No problem. My niece was the same so trying to think of things other than books.

But if books is what she loves then more books but buy hardback editions to keep.

Other ideas would be telescope, musical instrument.

Isadora2007 · 20/08/2017 10:22

Yeah that's a bit weird.
Imagine you don't like sports. So your husband gets you sports kit, sports classes etc.

Why not just accept she doesn't like toys and get her things she does like?

eyebrowsonfleek · 20/08/2017 13:52

Dressing up stuff?

If she likes craft what about more adult versions of stuff she likes - 3D pens, sewing machine etc?

Experiences? Would she like to be taught a new skill like baking?

Do you want to buy toys because you think she should have them rather than because you think she will enjoy them? Seems a shame to push an adult ideal.

BikeRunSki · 20/08/2017 19:01

CD player+ CDs, or more modernly, iPod?

Inthetropics · 31/08/2017 02:41

My approach to this would be to buy tons of books. Books are never enough if you are a book lover no matter how old you are.

Why would you buy her toys if she doesn't like them?

catsarenice · 31/08/2017 09:08

How about a radio controlled something where it takes practise to get really good?

StepAwayFromCake · 31/08/2017 09:20

Wristwatch
Fairy lights
Sewing kit/project
Colour-your-own bag/brolly/t-shirt
Plain t-shirts plus Sharpies/fabric pastels
Plain t-shirts plus tie-dye kit
Plain t-shirts plus wash-out pens
Knitting loom
Bead loom
Camera (for first occasion), followed by
Stop-motion kit (for 2nd occasion) to make animated films
(Buy them together to make sure they're compatible.)
A trip to a beading shop
A trip to a pottery painting place
If you've got the right sort of printer at home, you can buy transfer paper that will allow you to make your own iron-on images for clothes.

PriyaTheCreator · 06/09/2017 15:00

How about a fantasy story featuring her photos!

Tigersteeth - I love that shelf. Where did you get it?

Snafflebrain · 10/09/2017 14:56

What does she say she wants? I dont buy 100% what my DC ask for or coo over when thry see the ads on TV but I use it as a starting point for gift ideas for them.
