As above really. Don't have a huge budget but really need ideas for presents for 12 & 9 dd.
Neither girl has any hobbies as such. The are both too big for toys & I'm at a loss as to what to get.
Any ideas gratefully received.
Tia

At that age my kids love a gift voucher, I know it's boring but honestly the best gift as they can take ages deciding what they want to spend it on

ja9r · 13/08/2017 20:52

What kind of things?

Are these your own girls?

Approx budget?

Wanting a big thing or little things?

For 12 yo what about a steps counter/ Fitbit kind of thing but can get on branded ones for amazon for less than £30. Or is she into Harry Potter? Lovely HP gifts in primary- fleece blanket £6, cushion £4.

Primary home sept is great for girls imo- cheap cushions, twinkle lights, blankets etc

ja9r · 13/08/2017 20:53

Should have proof read - sorry.

Non-branded

Primark- not primary

allthingsred · 13/08/2017 21:02

Yes own daughters. It's difficult cause my youngest about to start middle school & I know her style gonna change rapidly in next few months.
My eldest only seems excited by her phone at the moment & her biggest hobby is chatting to her friends.
I've already squirrels away a jawbone (thank you ebay) for 12 yo.
They both love primark home ranges. I heard they've started harry potter but haven't been in yet (nearest store 30 mile away so it's a once a month trip).
do you think 12 is too young for a sewing machine?
I did think about vouchers but (I know it's selfish ) I love seeing there faces Xmas morning when they see what's waiting for them. It's the shopping bit that stress me out.

What's a jawbone? (Other than the obvious)

Enidblyton1 · 13/08/2017 21:17

12 isn't too young for a sewing machine, but does she like sewing and crafty stuff? If so, there are many fun kits you could get her which would be cheaper than a sewing machine.

allthingsred · 13/08/2017 21:19

A jawbone is similarly to a fitbit in measuring heartbeat, steps sleep cal burns etc but not as fancy & less than half the price.
Still wear it on your wrist but looks like a bracelet not a watch. My oh has one which is great.

Yes she has always liked craft bits her harumika was played with for ages.
She's put down her sketch & design pad the last months but it may inspire her again.

My dd had a sewing machine last year at age 12. She made a few things, but sadly hasn't bothered much with it recently.

Her favourite thing is the iPad mini she got last year... she also likes her jack wills hoody and fancy stationary!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 14/08/2017 11:29

9 year old dd will be getting some adult colouring books and sharpies. A photo book with pics of our days out (she loves remembering funny memories). Another build a bear, books, comics, stationary, new backpack, headphones, hair stuff, claires accessories tat, a few figures from her favourite film. No idea for a main gift yet but I'm sure she will come up with something before then if not will get her lots of bits and pieces :)

Isadora2007 · 14/08/2017 11:37

Could you put aside money monthly to get a shopping day out with the older one just before xmas- that way she chooses her own stuff but you have the day with her to make it special.
The 9 year old could she maybe have something like a kindle fire (they were £30 in the Black Friday event) or maybe even a small pay as you go if she would like a phone like her sister?
Make your own beauty/pamper hampers for them both or one of them? Keep an eye out for post holiday sales of travel size toiletries and package up nicely.
Netflix voucher and popcorn 🍿 and treats for a cinema night in?
Fluffy socks are always a hit here too! And new fleecy blankets.

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/08/2017 11:44

allthingsred · 14/08/2017 16:27

I've managed to get quite a few beauty bits from 2nd hand shops over last few months to go into pamper baskets for them both.
I'm about to start a new job which should hopefully let me be able to save a little every month (only about 50. But it helps)
I like the Netflix voucher idea they would both enjoy that. & colouring books with some nice pend.
Lush is all 3 of our favourite shop thank you all.

If she enjoyed playing with a harmonica, what about buying her/the girls Ukeleles? They can be bought from J G Windows online for about £30 each. Also, you could buy things like fairy lights for their bedrooms, lush bath bombs etc. Have they got a tablet? I would recommend the Amazon Fire from John Lewis. We bought one for our daughter last year and it was only about £30. X

Sorry don't know why when I copy and paste it comes out in one huge sentence!

peterpancollar · 15/08/2017 23:31

I have a 10 yr old DD. She's really into Jacqueline Wilson books so a magazine subscription is on the list. She also loves Paperchase and is now on her 3rd lockable journal. She's also pretty good at Quirkle (board game) and I'm holding out against the Nintendo Switch despite her coveting one after trying it out at a marketing stand last week.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/08/2017 22:12

For the 9 year old..

Anything from smiggle.
Crystal gem mining set.
Sleeping queens game.
Wireless headphones or speaker if she has a tablet or something for playing music?
Cinema voucher wrapped with a bag of popcorn.
Kids cookbook plus some cooking accessories.

AndNowItIsSeven · 20/08/2017 22:38
