Holiday

Had anyone seen any specifically Christmassy holidays (as oppose to a holiday over Christmas) that cover Christmas Day, suitable for a 2 (nearly 3) year old? Or even better, done something similar that they can recommend?

My ideal would be something like a visit to Lapland to see santa, but it doesn't need to be Lapland - we're happy to stay in the U.K. If we find something suitable.

We can fly fairly easily from Manchester, Birmingham or London, but also happy to drive.

I've found plenty of visit santa holidays in the run up to Christmas, and plenty of nice places to visit, but everything (understandably) shuts down over Christmas itself.

The cost doesn't matter too much - we had something major planned for that time that we had saved for, that now won't be happening, and we need distracting from the fact that it won't be happening, so we have plenty of savings to use.

Ive never done it but Aviemore in Scotland? You might need to fly as pretty far north but heard its beautiful.

I'm desperate to go to Disneyland Paris for Christmas. Just Christmas Eve morning to Boxing Day evening (although you can extend if you like). Dh and I have agreed to do it in 2020 to give time to save more then anything

I'd second Aviemore. One of my friends stayed in the MacDonald Hotel there over Christmas and you can wave Santa and his reindeer off on Christmas morning as they leave the hotel, go to the Pantomine etc plus if there is snow, it really is beautiful.

Thanks for the suggestions - we haven't been to Scotland before, so that's a great idea. My son is desperate to go on a plane, so he would (hopefully) love the flight, and if he doesn't, at least a flight to Scotland shouldn't be too long for us to manage!

Disneyland is also a great idea - would there be enough to do there for a 2 year old?

Center parcs is apparently very Christmassy

Edinburgh? Loads on over Christmas. Google Edinburghs Christmas I think. Also maybe centre Parcs?

k1yx - lots at Disney for a toddler. Took DD to DLP at 18 months and she enjoyed it so much we went to WDW in Orlando the following summer for a fortnight when she was 2y4m.

Thanks for the reassurance about Disneyland. I've just been looking at the website and it looks amazing! Do you have any recommendations for which hotel to choose?

I had looked at Centre Parcs, but have heard that the parks tend to be big, so can be difficult to get around. Has anyone else found that?

I've been to Disneylad Paris 3 times now - our two were 3 and 2 the first time, and in all honesty, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole over christmas. The crowds and queues will be absolutely horrific and completely unsuitable for a 2 year old. There's loads for them to do, but I'd tackle it off-season.

re distances in CP. It really depends what you think is far and also where your cabin is. I've mainly stayed in Whinfell and been in virtually every area. I don't mind a walk/scooter/bike ride but we've sometimes been so close that it's beena short stroll. We tended to just take pot luck but a couple of years we booked specific areas as our DSs were starting to be independant and we wanted them in easy walking for the playpark and pool and shops by themselves. I've also stayed in Sherwood forest and found that it didn't seem as big but then DSs were teenagers then so walked quicker!

Your DC will probably still be buggy age so it wouldn't matter too much, or you could hire a bike with a trailer/seat.

If you are looking at Aviemore, there is also the Coylumbridge which was my DSs favourite hotel for many years. They have cabins as well I think.

Bluestone in Wales is supposed to be good at xmas, they have a very good santa experience. I've never been but lots of friends have and said it's amazing

If the distances at cp are too big, Disney land Paris would be!
Stay in a central villa if you need to at cp

k1yx · 14/08/2017 12:21

Good points about the distances and business at Disney.

I'll add Bluestone and Coylumbridge to the possibles list, thanks
