Frame my name have some nice Christmas Eve boxes on offer (still £30 but they are personalised). My DC are 3 and 5 so just starting to get interested in Christmas. Just wondered what kind of stuff people put in a Xmas eve box to see if it was worth starting. Thanks.

You could have an advent box then? New treat every day until xmas eve? Spread the fun (and cost) out over the whole of December and couldn't have little notes saying "today we are going to see santa at the shopping centre" or "today we will be posting our cards" etc as well so wouldn't be like an actual gift every day. xmas books could be added to each year as well... and advent candle etc.

In ours I put:

PJ's
Snowman soup
Reindeer food
Bubble bath or Christmas bath bomb from Lush
Chocolate
Christmas book
Nice list certificate

I love Christmas Eve!

tootsieglitterballs · 12/08/2017 20:44

@Isadora2007 I've wondered about doing something like that before - next year that may work for us (we are due DS2 last week of November, so this year it probably won't work!)

TelephoneTree · 13/08/2017 19:45

There's giveaway with a lovely looking wooden Christmas Eve Box here. It can be personalised too.

TelephoneTree · 13/08/2017 19:47

OMG Nicpem1982 I'd love to visit a reindeer farm on Christmas Eve! I think I'd explode more than the kids!

Nicpem1982 · 13/08/2017 20:10

Telephone

It was beautiful they had a brass band playing carols photo ops with a reindeer Christmas crafts story time with an elf mrs Claus was bustling about hot chocs open fires and reindeer feeding

TelephoneTree · 13/08/2017 22:32

That sounds so amazing!

christmasunicorn · 14/08/2017 03:05

Oh nic that sounds wonderful. I'm embarrassed to admit this on the Christmas board but there is a reindeer farm 15minutes from my house yet I've never ever been Blush will have to correct that this year

Robots1Humans0 · 14/08/2017 03:44

Following because it's just so exciting !!!!!!!

Asalways · 14/08/2017 04:13

My children are older but I love the idea of Xmas pj's on Dec 1st. Deffo an Xmas bath bomb or Xmas themed make up as well.

VinIsGroot · 14/08/2017 04:29

I think this is just another pain in the arse.
We but PJ's new for Christmas Eve anyway .... We usually make the big event about the fucking annoying elf going home !

GutterStar · 14/08/2017 09:10

We have a Christmas envelope that gets delivered on occasional days in the run up. It doesn't have presents but instead has a treat or task inside, sometimes as simple as "Go to Tesco with Mummy and choose some chocolate to eat with a movie" or "Go to the park wearing a Christmas jumper", or more elaborate like "Today you are going to meet Santa at Thomas Land".
Originally the idea was that elves delivered the envelope, but last year DD decided it was definitely Mrs Santa. I think the Marks and Spencer advert may have influenced her!

MrsPayneworkingmummy · 15/08/2017 08:56

Awww, I love this post - it's given me lots of inspiration. Once we've had our summer holiday, I start to subtly plan for Christmas.
Could anyone recommend where I can buy nice Christmas bedding from? I already have red/checked bedding day to day for my husband and me, but would love something more festive for December. Additionally, I will also need a single duvet for our daughter's bed. If anyone can recommend a nice Christmas jarmies place too, that would be great. X

NoWordForFluffy · 15/08/2017 09:04

eBay is good for bedding.

tootsieglitterballs · 15/08/2017 09:19

@MrsPayneworkingmummy I find matalan normally have a good selection of festive bedding - i need to be able to feel the quality of bedding, I'm too fussy!

MrsPayneworkingmummy · 15/08/2017 09:35

Thank you. I have a store local to me so will make sure I pop in soon. I'm like you - I like to be able to see/feel things before I buy, however, I absolutely love Home and Barker online for bedding too, so will certainly be checking out their Christmas range (if they have one) x

Wayfarersonbaby · 15/08/2017 20:21

oncewaswho I found the same, a Christmas Eve box was just too much and a bit too late. We go to the Christingle service at the local church on Christmas Eve at 5pm; then after we get back there is only just enough time for supper and putting out the mince pie and carrot before DD is too tired to do anything else. I think a Christmas Eve box could work well for older children, but at that point there has been more than enough Christmas excitement for DD and she is a bit overwhelmed by any more! I normally get a new Christmas book for Christmas Eve but anything else, I've found, is OTT for a small one.

I normally do something instead at the start of Advent: when the (picture) Advent calendar arrives, that year's Christmas pyjamas, some Christmas crafts or baking activities, and our usual stack of Christmas books and DVDs all arrive too, to be enjoyed throughout Advent as a lead-up to the festivities. That way it spreads the excitement across the month in manageable doses. I normally do an "advent bag" for my nieces and nephews, too, with some Christmas decorations and other items, an Advent calendar and a Christmas book or DVD.

I've already got this year's Christmas pyjamas for DD and am looking forward to getting the Advent bag ready! Grin

Unicorn81 · 15/08/2017 21:11

The bedding in asda is really good and cheap

tootsieglitterballs · 16/08/2017 17:12

Is it @Unicorn81 ? I might give there's a look this year for DS1. It will be the first year he's in a proper grown up bed !

Unicorn81 · 16/08/2017 17:21

tootsieglitterballs · 19/08/2017 09:20

@Family121 it's so exciting at this age isn't it!

tigercub50 · 19/08/2017 09:23

Never done a Christmas Eve box - some lovely ideas

BettyOBarley · 20/08/2017 21:46

I've done this for the past 2 years for DD 3 but also found the first year that it was too late and a lot of it never got used, so last year and this year I'm doing a 1st Dec Box which will have an advent calendar, a bauble for the tree, a Xmas cup and plate, Xmas bibs for DS, some baking and craft stuff, Xmas dvds and books/sticker book, letter to santa kit and card making stuff for grandparents cards. Basically just loads of stuff to help me entertain her throughout December!

And then the Xmas eve box will have pjs, Snowman soup, Night before Xmas book which gets brought out every year, new Xmas dvd, Santa's tray and magic key, reindeer food, a bit of choc and maybe one colouring activity to pass a bit of the afternoon as we always do a local santa train in the morning.
