Can you talk to me about craft fairs?

I'm pondering making and selling at our school craft fair this year. I've never done it before and I've no real idea of what I'm getting into. My thoughts are to sell items for £1 or £2 with a small number of more expensive items around £10.
If you've sold at craft fairs before I'm wondering what sort of profit margin makes it worthwhile? Do you factor in the cost of your own labour?
I'm very much in two minds about the whole thing. Being our local school I think I'd probably sell a decent amount even just to other mums who know me. But the tables seem quite expensive and while they get plenty of footfall, it's such a crush I've never actually bought from the craft tables in previous years. There just isn't room to stop and browse without creating a traffic jam.
That said, I know lots of parents there and my product would appeal to the kids as much as the adults.
I'm not sure that I actually have a specific question but just generally curious about other people's experiences really.

You have to factor in time and materials. I can't think of one thing that would be worth making and selling for as little as a pound OP.

What items do you make?
