Some of my family and I are renting out a chalet for a week for Christmas , about 15 people all up, some are children. It's a km out from chamonix so we should have good access to food, but I'm after suggestions for some great dishes that don't need extensive shopping of things we would use a bit of and
dump the rest. I'm looking now because I'm hoping to be pregnant and probably won't be able to think about food then and dh isn't really up to it Grin

Can you bring small amounts of spices, herbs, flavourings, oils, etc with you from your own store cupboard? Basically avoid buying anything you just need a pinch or splash of and bring it from home instead. It's a hassle to pack but probably a lot less hassle to hunt down when you're there.

Oh definitely on bringing things like spices which don't take up much space. I can see that's not at all clear in my op. It's really the recipe for the amazing holiday meal that I am after so I know what spices etc to bring. But strange flours and a dozen different oils and random jars of things is too much for luggage and would be a bit of a waste.

If you don't feel like cooking much there are lots of simple alpine recipes that you could easily get ingredients for, e.g., tartiflette, although may not be the thing you had in mind. Also French supermarkets are full of 'special' things just before Christmas, marinated stuff, stuffed stuff, lots of nice things that don't need much work - I hate doing a lot of cooking at Christmas so quite enjoy some of this. Picard the frozen food shop is very nice for desserts (and some other things).

Also, if you really want to do the minimum you can order a lot ready made from supermarkets, e.g. This - en.calameo.com/books/00272183028e171df8f6a Hyper U Christmas food to order, sorry from 2013 , I couldn't find a more recent one but you will get the idea.
