Shit, I missed out a Muppet's Christmas Carol!

ShesAStar · 30/07/2017 00:36

All of the ones mentioned - I love Christmas films and try to start watching them in October but sometimes I get nostalgic before. Just wanted to mention Serendipidy - lovely Christmassy feel good film.

QuimJongUn · 30/07/2017 10:39

Bernard and the Genie. Nothing comes close.

That said, me and DD always make an occasion of it when The Ghost Of Greville Lodge is shown on C5 - they usually air it on the Sunday afternoon closest to Hallowe'en because, I suppose, of the haunting element. But it's very definitely a Christmas film, and it always marks the start of the run-up proper for us.

Special mentions go to A Child's Christmas In Wales (the BBC version from a few years ago - I'm Welsh and the 80s valleys Christmases are spot on, total nostalgiafest), the Patrick Stewart Christmas Carol, Scrooged, and anything ghostly because Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without ghosts!

QuimJongUn · 30/07/2017 10:41

Oh and The Good Life 'It's Silly But It's Fun' Christmas episode. And, rather embarrassingly, all the My Family Christmas specials. They're a bit of an institution in our house!

MusicToMyEars800 · 05/08/2017 22:01

I forgot to add
The Grinch
Four Christmases
Crazy for Christmas
Arthur Christmas

Joanne1991 · 07/08/2017 10:25

I also love the 1999 Christmas special of the royle family and the only fools and horses Christmas specials

My absolute favourite is The Muppets Christmas Carol, but I also love Arthur Christmas.
The Snowman, The Snowman and the Snowdog, and Father Christmas are all lovely, too.

In terms of TV specials I can watch and rewatch Gavin and Stacy (the first Christmas special when they all go to Essex), Only Fools and Horses, or The Vicar of Dibley. A few years ago I picked up a Two Ronnies Christmas DVD in Sainsbury's. That always gets a spin in the run up to the big day!

My absolute favourite is The Greatest Store in the World, but DVDs are as rare as hen's teeth.

Not that I would dream of advocating something illegal...but I did manage to torrent find this online to download last year. Just throwing that out there...

BroomstickOfLove · 09/08/2017 08:24

Ooh, thanks, GutterStar. I watched it on YouTube for years, but last year the video has been removed.

As I would happily buy a legal copy if only the BBC would bloody well release one, I would have very little guilt over obtaining one in any way I can.

KnitFastDieWarm · 09/08/2017 11:14

It's not Christmas until I've sobbed my way through The Office Christmas special followed by the Misfits Christmas special with a gin and tonic in hand. Genuinely find them life affirming and moving at that time of year.

I also love the vicar of dibley and father ted Christmas specials.
The Festivus episode of Seinfeld ( ideally watched on 23rd Dec Grin)

Film wise it has to be elf, die hard and Groundhog Day

MuseumGardens · 10/08/2017 08:28

Scrooge (1970 film)
The Royle Family - The New Sofa

MuseumGardens · 10/08/2017 08:34

It's sad there'll never be any more Royle Families. They were brill
