Gifts (already) - homemade, yes or no?

I am skint. Not likely to change before December. I have 4 close friends I'd like to get Christmas gifts for but really can't afford it.

I could however afford the odd cheap-ish ball of wool every other week before then. I could crochet them a blanket each for about £6/7 per head in the time before now and Christmas... So £28 for all four maximum. Obviously would personalise for each of them.

Would you find this a really naff present to receive from a good friend?

I wouldn't use a blanket but like the idea of a decoration. Nothing wrong with a homemade present if it's something they like. I wouldn't want you to spend hours on it either.

I love homemade gifts! Blankets are a lovely idea, but personally I'd get more use out of a scarf (no idea if you can crochet these...?). Tree decorations is a lovely idea as well.

Surely people are happy to eat/drink homemade gifts from friends?

I was given a crocheted blanket when I passed my test and loved it. I kept it in my car in case of emergencies for over 10 years. Then DD2 cut a hole in it using scissors, I cried! AngrySad

Maiden I buy my wool from a shop on Amazon or eBay (can't remember which but it's one of them) that does bundles of 10 100g balls for something like £8, think they're discontinued shades or something hence the v reasonable price. Just have to have a really good look and there's normally some brilliant deals to be had!

When I say "the odd ball of wool" I really meant I'd keep aside the money until I had enough for the bundle. Could get a big bundle each month just keeping aside £2/3 a week. Just didn't think I'd need this much detail on my plan in the OP as I just wanted opinions on whether the blankets themselves would be crap to receiveGrin

I like the idea of snowflakes and Christmassy decoration things too! At the moment my plan is to use neutral colours or try and match the colours as closely as possible to the respective decor in their houses. Thanks everyone for replying! I'll update you on what I've done and how it went down come December Smile

I would prefer crochet Christmas ornaments to a blanket as I don't use blankets so it would sit hidden a drawer. I'd enjoy getting the Christmas crochet out every year
