I need ideas please, my DD is still playing with dolls and shopkins but wants make up and a river island hand bags (she says she wants to be like a teenager Hmm).. she still believes in santa though I plan to tell her after Christmas. I just don't know what to plan to buy and wondered if any lovely mumsnet ladies have any suggestions or know what they're getting their DD's

It's July. She'll have changed in the intervening 6 months, surely? Is she in Year 6 currently? If so, she won't still be playing with shopkins by Christmas Confused

Nickname0 · 06/07/2017 15:39

I know it's July floggy, I posted it on a Christmas thread that seems to be pretty active even though it's July Smile

Yes she's in Year 6, I was asking for ideas mainly to put together a list and save for those items or buy weekly/monthly.

I have a 10 year old niece and she's having a hamper of bath treats from sephora (we drive to Calais) it's her first one but she's has sisters who have had them for about 5 years from us

We buy young fruity smells like blueberry or chocolate orange for the younger ones and coconut, green tea and vanilla for the older ones

Could you do something similar with body shop?

Floggingmolly · 06/07/2017 15:53

Sorry, I know it's a Christmas thread Grin. Just... if she'll be in Year 7 in September; by Christmas she'll have changed out of all recognition.
Sad

Nicpem1982 · 06/07/2017 15:57

This is true flog my niece went into year 7 a sweet girl who played out with her mates and enjoyed playing board games

By Christmas she had a hair do, and had "her people" and the board games have been swapped for an iPad and hair dyes

SideOrderofSprouts · 07/07/2017 19:07

My daughter will be 11 just after Christmas. She's getting bedding. Toiletries. Hair straighteners etc

As for telling about Santa if she's going into year seven I think she will know well before you tell her!

Dawnedlightly · 07/07/2017 19:09

It's a good idea to start saving but yy to her changing loads between now and Christmas.

Guitargirl · 07/07/2017 19:12

Our 10-year-old will prob be having her own laptop for Christmas. A basic one so not too £££. I am also Shock that she seems to still be a Father Christmas believer going into year 6 in September. I blame it on an all-too-realistic trip to Lapland aged 7 Grin.

bath treats from sephora (we drive to Calais)

There's a sephora in Calais? Why has no one ever told me this? I need to go!

Might have missed the point of this thread a bit.

Justgivemeamo · 08/07/2017 22:25

whats sephora?

good thread op I always turn to xmas thoughts at this time of year in the sales Smile.

So far I got both dd's a money box each from paper chase and some fun pens in the sale from there too for stockings. Some schleich figures...

She wants to draw better so i may look into that - but her main gift will be a nintendo ds and games.

I do love idea of smellies though, we have never really done that, every year I get tempted by Lush then recoil with horror at the prices. But its hard to know what to buy her so I think I will splash out this year.
guitar was that real lap land or the UK one, we are going for the first time this year. Infact was discussing logistics of getting there tonight. I will have to pull dc out of school a few hours early ...bring them home and say " oh my goodness, whats that by fake woodburner in fake fireplace

SafeToCross · 08/07/2017 22:31

Not sure about this year, but last year Lush, unicorn onesie, jewellry, handbag. She is often happy now with anything with a sausage dog or a pineapple on it, for some reason. And muted neutral shades of nail polish or make up.

FreakyPurple · 08/07/2017 22:40

My daughter has asked for these things: novelty iPod covers, Typo notebooks/stationery, clothes, voucher for iTunes/app store, earrings, makeup, a Fitbit. She will also ask again for an iPhone and I think that this year as she's going into secondary, we may get one for her.

Guitargirl · 08/07/2017 22:46

Justgivemeamo - I meant the real Lapland. But we also did Lapland UK 2 years before going to Finland. Father Christmas also v realistic there too! Smile

Justgivemeamo · 08/07/2017 22:51

oh Grin OK. Glad other one is good too - out of interest which Lapland did you go too - in Finland, I know there are a few different sites etc. Smile

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/07/2017 23:03

I think a Fitbit is quite likely but won't be making any definite decisions till much nearer the time (about November). I start present shopping generally in Sept when the schools go back, but decisions on big items are later in case they change their minds.

Guitargirl · 08/07/2017 23:26

We went to Saariselka - I would recommend it if you were thinking of going! Xmas Grin

Nicpem1982 · 09/07/2017 09:04

Sequins - Sephora is in city d'europe carcachelle we always pop in and buy Xmas hampers for nieces

Nicpem1982 · 09/07/2017 09:07

Sephora is a huge bath/body/cosmetics chain of stores in Europe they sell lovely things at a range of prices we spend about 30€ a hamper and it normally has in

Bubble bath
Bath bombs
Bath oils
Shower gel
Body butter
Sponge/buffer

SequinsOnEverything · 09/07/2017 09:42

Thanks Nic now I've just got to convince dh we should go! Is it worth going to Calais if you aren't travelling on to somewhere else or would I need to make it a mini break to somewhere?

Nicpem1982 · 09/07/2017 10:34

No calais by all accounts isn't very nice we're driving to holland this year so we'll stop en route, theres a lovely toys r us in city deurope too

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 14/07/2017 08:53

@Sequins Mini break to Bruges. Citi de Europe is about 20 min west of Calais - think is shut on Sun. Then East to Bruges - about ?90mins. Fab city for a mini break any time of the year. Even better for Christmas markets.

I would tell her/drop hints about Father Christmas now tbh. Middle of July not as salient as around Christmas time. Better than her letting on to her new yr7 friends that she still believes, unless any particular reason or I guess in middle school system wouldn't be an issue.
