Perfect place to have a cosy UK Christmas

So after years of being in Australia for Christmas, and the children only knowing a summer santa, I get to come back and feel proper Christmasy at last.

Thing is that while we have distant family and some friends to see for the extended break it'll just be the four of us (me DH DS6 and DS7) for Christmas/boxing day. We have no ties to any particular area, so now I'm not sure where would be nicest.

At the moment I'm doing fantasy airbnb searches round the Peak District and Norfolk, so I'm looking for help and anyone else who wants to join my Christmas idyllic dream world.

Looking for
Area/town or individual house ideas
Countryside, with views, not sure what of, but so it looks pretty without going outside.
Pub within walking distance
Country walks
Is there anywhere that might get snow?
I really want an open fire/ wood burner
A kind of Cameron Diaz in The Holiday but with DH not Jude Law
The moon on a stick.

Anyone wanna come dream with me

How about Alnwick or that part of the NE? The castle looks very 'Harry Potter' in the winter and you are near so many fab places to visit. Warkworth is a beautiful christmassy village at that time of year too. We've used Coquet Cottages many times for that part of the world and always been really happy.

This cottage is just gorgeous and I've spent Christmas there. There was a decorated tree, a hamper of local food and the most beautiful snowy views.

It's in Wales, just over the border. It's such a beautiful part of the country.

I'm Australian and we're going to be in Edinburgh this year for Christmas. Smile

Seems like a good spot to me!

Also lots of lovely Wensleydale Cottages here.

Landmark trust have the Wardrobe at Salisbury available for Christmas week - in the grounds of the cathedral so I imagine very Christmasy.

I also recommend Aveimore!! I live about 40 minutes away and it's such a lovely place to visit. And I'm sure they do a Santa parade on Christmas Eve.

Have you thought about Pitlochry/ Aberfeldy/ Crieff? They would tick all your boxes with a reasonable chance of snow.

I love Aviemore. Though I reckon York would be lovely too!

I spent a marvellous Christmas in York, stayed in a central hotel . The city is SOOOO festive it is magical

North Norfolk. Stay near Holt for Christmas lights, Thursford for the Christmas Show & Cromer for fish & chips. Villages with good pubs include Siffkey, Wiveton, Wells next the Sea, Burnham Market, East Rudham, Edgefield, or stay in Holt itself. Beautiful place, personally I would stay in Burnham Market (Host) or Wells for the beach walks....

Have had a few Christmasses in rentals in Norfolk. Norfolk Hideaways is a good website for finding lovely properties.
