What's on in the background when you open presents in your house?

I am looking for inspiration. We open presents before breakfast, so nice and early, and every year I think how weirdly quiet it is. But I am always too knackered to think how to change the ambience Grin

Some loud drum & bass would set the scene at the few family Christmases I've been at.

Hulababy · 21/12/2016 10:41

Christmas songs. Either a CD, via Deezer or one of the Sky music channels

SheSparkles · 21/12/2016 10:46

I have a Phil Spector Christmas cd which we've had for a few years, but will probably just stream an Xmas playlist from Amazon this year, I found a good one on there when I was putting up the Xmas tree

Aftertheraincomesthesun · 21/12/2016 10:49

Sky news

JemimaMuddledUp · 21/12/2016 10:50

Classic FM or Carols on a CD. Gets switched off periodically as people play the piano.

Natsku · 21/12/2016 10:56

We go to FIL's to open presents so the sound of DD and FIL's youngest child yammering on about their presents, grandma's dog going nuts over whatever toy he gets given, and probably some telly in the background. I miss the quieter present opening of my childhood where we all took turns to open a present, first reading out the clue on the tag and trying to guess what it was. With the obligatory break for the Queen.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 21/12/2016 10:59

Must have Christmas music. It's essential! We play more upbeat stuff for the present opening and I move onto the more peaceful and traditional (and very old) church music while DH and I have a leisurely breakfast while talking turkey.

Loads of streams on Spotify to listen to - whatever mood you are in.

Eolian · 21/12/2016 11:01

Carols. Definitely not tv. Actually I don't think I've ever watched tv on Christmas Day!

Falalalafffffffttt · 21/12/2016 11:03

Crooner Christmas carols like Bing Crosby and Harry Belafonte and Elvis. Elvis Presley's Blue Christmas is a classic.

ShowMeTheElf · 21/12/2016 11:10

I get out the Carols from Kings CD for tree dressing and gift opening every year.
Everyone else chooses what we watch or listen to for the rest of the Christmas period, but gift opening and tree trimming are MINE I tells you!

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2016 11:13

Michael buble Xmas album...

farfarawayfromhome · 21/12/2016 11:17

the buble, always the buble! or jazz fm...

hugoagogo · 21/12/2016 11:19

I don't really get background music? I love music, but I like to consciously listen to it and I hate nearly all christmas music especially.

Presents are opened whilst I drink coffee and try not to look disappointed in my socks and inappropriate giant jewellery, scarves etc.
God I sound fun don't I? I

J0kersSmile · 21/12/2016 11:23

One of the music channels playing Christmas songs.

SatsukiKusakabe · 21/12/2016 12:02

Yes I don't find I need to consciously listen to Frosty the Snowman, musically it is very pleasant and creates a Christmassy atmosphere though Xmas Smile

slug · 21/12/2016 12:51

The gurgle and hiss of the coffee machine and the hum of the oven warming croissants. Followed by the sound of DH's latest CD that he unwrapped earlier.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/12/2016 16:45

Classic FM - lots of carols! - or else a CD of carols/Christmassy songs.

Chattymummyhere · 21/12/2016 21:21

Normally just a random music channel on the TV although one year that did result in lmfao in the background of a couple of photos Xmas Hmm

Sallystyle · 21/12/2016 21:22

Nothing.

Cuttysarky · 22/12/2016 00:30

Pollyanna9 I had forgotten about that snowy walk reindeer, it was so amazing, really gave me the Christmas feels. I must see it again! Any idea what it was called?

I'm so pleased I asked - there are some fab ideas here, thanks.

I am usually so tired as DS2 has ASD and although he is up the milder end of the scale, he gets worked up on Christmas Eve and can't sleep.

So consequently, DH and I are usually slumped on the sofa at seven in the morning, clutching extra-strong coffee , with an long old day ahead of us, and no energy for thinking about Christmas music.

This year however, DS2 has reached his teens, and sleeping is his favourite thing, so he has promised faithfully he will give us a whole night's sleep on Christmas Eve so I will be up and at 'em this year! Grin

No more quiet Christmas mornings - we are gonna have music!
