I need some inspiration!
Am hosting for in-laws and want it to be a bit special but easy, enough but nothing too substantial.....
I can only think of chicken liver pate or prawn cocktail but how 80's is that?!
Help!!

Last year I did an antipasti platter. Got some nice bread, chopped up smoked salmon, Parma ham, some sundried tomatoes, olives in ramakins.
I sliced ciabatta, lightly toasted and rubbed garlic cloves over. Then added sliced vine tomatoes, mozzarella and basil leaves
I put it all on a wooden board and everyone helped themselves

Another year I made a smoked salmon terrine in advanced and served with soda bread. From memory it was line a loaf tin with cling film, smoked salmon. Then mix more salmon, lemon juice, cream cheese and fill the middle, wrap up and weight it down in the fridge

Easiest option is soup and some bread you can warm in the oven - think we'll have it this year

No starter here either - just platters of cheeses, crackers, chutney, olives and antipasto goodness.

It's much more relaxed, and way easier to prepare.

I do either mini smoked salmon blinis or gravadlax and soda bread, with champagne.

My DM does a salmon ring mousse with rocket and melba toast, every year now. Years ago when we were small she used to rotate through three Christmas starter dishes: melon balls with port, carrot and coriander soup, or chicken liver pate. We much prefer the salmon mousse!

This is making me feel MUCH better! Am going to serve brunch then do Christmas dinner at 3.45pm ish so nibbles around 2pm would be just enough I think. I get a bit worked up/drink too much when hosting so to minimise the food prep is for the best! Thanks everyone Smile
