I'm considering it today, then nipping to aldi which is a 5 minute drive on 23rd for milk and veg etc.

Today I plan on stocking the freezer and buying all the none perishables. Hoping to avoid the madness. Does anybody else do this? We won't eat it all before honest!

I do the freezing thing too. Turkey, sausages, bread sauce etcetc all bought fresh and then frozen. I just need to pop out on 23rd to buy fruit, veg, milk and bread.

Bake - why not just buy the frozen variety if you are going to freeze them anyway ? no point on paying for fresh

anyoldname76 · 18/12/2016 15:44

We've done our big shop today, with all the alcohol, frozen, cheeses etc. All we now need to do is collect our Christmas and Boxing Day meals from M&S and we'll be done.

I like to buy organic and free range if possible Art so I think you get more choice if you buy fresh.

SleepFreeZone · 18/12/2016 19:17

I'm feeling horribly smug as I've decided to do away with a traditional Christmas dinner this year. So I shall be found wafting round Waitrose a couple of days before, just idly placing a few bits and bobs in the trolley and then sauntering out all relaxed like 🙊

Last year I was bonkers organised or so I thought and went to tesco on the 23rd at 6am. I thought I was being clever but it seemed everyone else had the same idea. This year I've got a 9 month old so it's not as easy. My DF is going to collect the turkey at 7am on Thursday and will get the veg at the same time. All I really need to get is picky bits like sausage rolls, cheese, pate etc so will probably walk with the pram on Thursday or Friday. I don't dare try to park the car, the car park is usually heaving on a normal day! Xmas Hmm

I always have veg in the fridge so my shop will be done on Thursday which is payday and ill be buying a month woth of cupboard/freezer food. I dont need anything special for Christmas really.
So I think you should be fine doing it earlier.

Bauble16 · 19/12/2016 09:37

Thanks it's all done and dusted. Managed to get Iceland delivery for 23rd for fresh bits too :)

We are doing ours after DH finishes work on the 23rd. Always found it to be the best time.

Only have a few fresh bits to get.

RebootYourEngine · 19/12/2016 09:41

I would buy non fridge/freezer stuff now and get the rest towards the end of the week because a lot of the fresh stuff goes out of date before the 25th or not in stock.

PumpkinPie2016 · 19/12/2016 14:04

I have xmas puds, cake, crackers, cranberry sauce, brandy cream (dates until 7th Jan), cream cheese and smoked salmon (again both have long dates).

I also have drinks.

Meet is on order at the butcher's so I can collect on Xmas eve morning.

I will pop in early Thursday morning for veg and any last minute bits.

After that, I won't be braving the shops until after Christmas!
