Leaving out anything from this list would ruin Christmas in the Binary Household

Chipolatas bought from the butchers in a particular seaside town
Roast Potatoes
Yorkshire puddings (controversial I know...)

Anything else is fair game.

But the hallowed food is not be touched?

Poverty would love to see the recipe for the terrine ...

Streaky bacon that gets cooked on top of the turkey.
Stuffing and little button sprouts Xmas Smile

exLtEveDallas · 16/12/2016 21:59

We are going away for Christmas this year Binary - Muslim country so no lovely pigs.

(DD has asked me to make a big dish of them and nothing else when we get back!)

Hassled · 16/12/2016 21:59

Parsnips mashed with cream and nutmeg. And red cabbage. Everything else I can take or leave really.

ohtheholidays · 16/12/2016 22:14

For me Turkey.
Stuffing made with sausage meat.
Fluffy on the inside crispy on the oustide roast potatoes.
Creamy mashed potatoes.
Brussel sprouts.
Roast parsnips
Gravy and Cranberry sauce.

The rest of my family would say my homemade cauliflower cheese.
Pigs in blankets.
The Pork dish I do along side the turkey.
Glazed Carrots.
Yorkshire puddings.

I love cooking the Christmas dinner,it's one meal I really enjoy getting to cook.

You have to read through the whole thing but this is the link... www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/toms_turkey_roll_with_44115

Blacksox · 16/12/2016 22:19

I love all the trimmings.

Chestnut stuffing, angels on horseback, pigs in blankets, leek sauce, glazed parsnips, homemade cranberry sauce etc etc

Everyone else gets excited about the turkey and roast potatoes, but I love all the Christmassy extras.

My dh does the best roast dinner ever.

Vienetta

evilharpy · 17/12/2016 06:41

For pudding, I mean.

worldsworstchildren · 17/12/2016 09:01

We also have Yorkshire pudding.

But definitely
Turkey
Roast potatoes
Sprouts
Bread sauce
Cranberry sauce
Roast parsnips

Like bacon, like sausage -can't stand pigs in blankets though.

MostlyColouringIn · 17/12/2016 09:28

Stuffing, Pigs in Blankets and tons of Roasties....oh and morning drinking. Its not Christmas dinner if I'm not half cut while cooking it!

XiCi · 17/12/2016 09:30

Where are you going LtEve. If it's Dubai you will most certainly get pigs in blankets Smile

ClashCityRocker · 17/12/2016 09:37

worldsworst can't stand pigs in blankets Shock ? That's the most insane thing I've ever read on mumsnet Grin

We have yorkies too. Although I have yorkies at every available opportunity (ie if it's got anything even slightly resembling gravy with it, there's a yorkie)

But the things that set it apart from a normal roast for me are:

Red cabbage
Bread sauce
'Proper' stuffing - normal roasts we just use paxo
Sprouts
Cranberry sauce

And the turkey, I suppose, as it's the only time of year we eat it. Don't know why, actually, as we both really like turkey and it's usually quite a cheap meat the rest of the year.

exLtEveDallas · 17/12/2016 11:02

XiCi, we are off to Egypt. When we've been before there weren't any pork products, so I don't think we'll be that lucky this time. DD is now saying she wants them for breakfast tomorrow!
