So DP is dreading Christmas, it will be his first year without his little girl as she is at her mums this year, I want to get him something/make something with her to give to him on Boxing Day as i know it will mean a lot to him but I am stuck for what to do and annoyed at myself for leaving it so late (originally I was going to order a leather bracelet with a bead on with her name/ DOB) I thought about making a mug with a drawing and all that but I know she will just scribble all over it and I'm sure he doesn't really want that! She's 4. Any ideas before I lose the plot worrying about it?! Xmas Confused

Will you get any time to get his DD to make a surprise for him? I'd do that...what's wrong with her scribbling all over it? She's his DD...he will love even a scribbled mug. Do you have any DC of your own? I only ask because all the parents I know, adore their scribbled gifts.

4 is old enough for some paint and glitter. Her making a gift for Daddy is a great idea.
I've used masking tape to make a tree, then have her paint over and peel it off.

Well then surely you know that even their most pathetic attempts at art are appreciated. Also, you shouldn't worry yourself sick about it. It's very, very hard for your DP...but it's not your problem. You're doing all you can by thinking of a way to cheer him up. An item made by his DD will be the best thing ever.

Get a pic of his DC in a above frame.

Something she's made is definitely the way to go. Bake cookies together and stick christmas stickers on a box to present them in. Or glass paint, jam jar and tea light to make a lovely candle. Or just a picture she's painted in a frame.

I'd buy a new posh beer/ale/cider then get his daughter to decorate a large white label (you can buy a box from stationary shops like WHSmith) with words such as "Just for daddy".

You could just structure the mug decorating a bit for her. Hand print reindeers look good.

MrsHathaway · 15/12/2016 15:48

If you could do a picture with her and scan or photograph it then someone like Truprint (or Asda or Max Spielman if you can get to a branch) will put it on a mug. You could have lots of chances to fiddle with the image to get it just right, maybe do a few different crafts with all the children and choose the best.

But get your skates on ...
