Christmas movies without the existence/otherwise of Santa as plot device

OBVIOUSLY this is a ridiculous PFB question.

Can anyone recommend good Christmas movies for families that don't touch on the existence or otherwise of Father Christmas?

My PFB is just young enough (5.5) that, to my knowledge, the question of whether or not you believe in Father Christmas hasn't yet arisen. I'm sure other kids will start telling her FC doesn't exist soon enough but I don't want to be the one to sow the seeds of doubt Grin.

I know lots of Christmas movies do the whole "some cynical kids don't believe in Santa but WE KNOW he really exists" thing. But I don't really think the fact that he might not be real has occurred to her yet and I just want to preserve the magic of unquestioning belief for a little longer....

So - any good fun family Christmas movies which just take Santa as a given?

Definitely avoid Miracle on 34th street, would NOT recommend.

Fred Claus is lovely. We all enjoy that.

'A Charlie Brown Christmas' would be really nice for someone aged 5.5.

'A Christmas Story' is hilarious but would go right over the head of someone that age.

'Shrek the Halls' is a good one.

Does National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) count?

Definitely a vote for Arthur Christmas.

Oh and there's one on netflix at the moment called Santa Claws, which is about some cats stepping in to help Father Christmas. I wasn't paying great attention but I don't think it questions his existence.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is the best Christmas film- fact!

TrickyD · 24/10/2019 23:09

Yes, Heather it certainly counts. One of my favourite films. Some wonderful scenes.

Arthur Christmas all the way. I may have to re-watch it tomorrow as I love that movie.

Miracle on 34th Street was our go-to movie. It does have the 'Santa isn't real' element, but ends with them all believing.

I would have Die Hard as the best Christmas movie ever, but I think your little one may be a bit too young for that. I think Jurassic Park is a good choice for a Christmas movie when your child is older (I have no idea how to shoe-horn it into Christmas but I love it).

I have the same problem. Bright DS1 has been asking tricky questions since he was 4 (now 7). He also has ASD and likes very few films although the Snowman and The Snowman and the Snowdog were fine (well a few tears the first time at end of the Snowman but recovered quickly and loves it now!). Apart from those, rather than a film, we often watch the Christmas episodes of favourite cartoons e.g. Octonauts A very Vegimals Christmas, Paw Patrol The Pups Save Christmas, Peppa Pig (when they were smaller), Go-Jetters The North Pole. More for DS2 aged 4 but DS1 secretly likes them too.
