I need a story

Hi

I am hoping someone with with a creative mind can help. My friend has bought my son a gift that he will love, and has said its to be just from Santa. However it is such a lovely, amazing gift that I want her to be involved somehow, so my son (4) knows to say thank you to her, but not to go against her wishes that its from Santa.

I was thinking of maybe she sent it to Santa and santa passed it on, but was wondering if anyone else had any other ideas. I am willing to put as much effort as it takes into creating a story.

Can you tell us what the gift is? It might make it easier to weave a tae around it then.
Can't 'Auntie Sue' (whatever) have seen Santa and mentioned your son would like a XXX?

Grumpyoldblonde · 13/12/2016 11:12

Tale not tae.

Hi

Its a paw patroller

www.amazon.co.uk/Paw-Patrol-6024966-Patroller/dp/B00W62P65E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481628331&sr=8-1&keywords=paw+patrol+-+paw+patroller

(its gone up alot since I started looking.)

Like I say its an amazing gift for him, and while I respect her decision that she just wants it to be from Santa, I also want him to realise that Santa had alot of help

Hmm, I'm not the move creative person I'm afraid, but I would build on the basic story that Santa has been vey busy trying to find this popular toy, but they are hard to find and he is going to have to give lots of children something else this year. Luckily, 'Auntie Sue' went out for the day, had a bit of an adventure (the creative bit that I'm crap at) and found this paw patrol thingy, she saw an Elf walking down the street (more creativity needed here to pad it out) and stopped him and asked him to tell Santa that her little friend 'James' would love one of these and could he see to it that he receives one.
Sorry I'm a bit rubbish but I am sure you can weave more into this.

strawberrybubblegum · 13/12/2016 12:16

I'd keep it simple. How about:
'oh my goodness, DS. Wow! Did you know: Auntie Sue saw this, and she thought it would be perfect for you. So she asked Santa if he would give it to you as an extra present because she knew you would love it. And look! He has!! Wasn't that kind of her to do that?

Focuses on friend's thoughtfulness, and that she wants DS to have it because she cares about him. And being an extra present will make it even more special Grin

strawberrybubblegum · 13/12/2016 12:17

It is a stunning gift, btw!!

myoriginal3 · 13/12/2016 12:19

Nope. Santa is Santa. He brings amazing gifts. It's the magic.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 13/12/2016 15:38

If you want her to know how grateful he is have him write santa a thank you letter. Send letter to friend, post empty envelope to santa

sobeyondthehills · 13/12/2016 15:43

Grumpyoldblonde
Thank you so much that is the sort of thing I was looking for, my mind is just a blank.

strawberrybubblegum
It is an amazing gift and I am so greatful to her, and I love her to pieces for the gift, but I just can't let it go with Santa bought this.

myoriginal3 Normally I would agree with you but every once in a while its good to give credit where it is due, even if it means weaving a bit of a story.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas in my head its not so much she knows how grateful he is, she knows how grateful I am and how he will be. Its so he knows someone else went to the extra effort of getting him something which he will love. Without ruining Santa or going against completely what she wants.

But thanks for the idea of the Christmas letter. That would of probably been my next question in a week or so's time

Your friend sounds bloody lovely!

Maybe you can say something like "When Santa was calling all the adults that you know to see if you'd been good or not, X told him that you had been SO good that you deserved a Paw Patroller, isn't that nice of her? I think you need to thank her for the lovely gift."

However in my family, only stocking presents are from Santa, everything else is from the giver - Santa plays more of an administration and logistics role in those. It's just easier that way and means everyone gets thanked.

sobeyondthehills · 13/12/2016 16:40

we normally do, the same sort of thing and then presents from other relatives are from said relatives.

But this was a bit of a surprise from her to DS and she has said she wants it to be from santa, otherwise her name would be plastered all over the gift.

Thank you for the lovely ideas. When he comes to write his thank you cards, she will be getting one as well, even if it just is to say thank you for helping. Although I do like the idea of getting him to write to santa and send that one to her

And she is blooming lovely and I am very lucky to have her as a friend

What about writing a letter from Santa to your soon and popping it in with the toy. Explain Santa's elves were missing a really important tool that the needed to make the toy. The elves were looking everywhere for one and were so exhausted that one fell asleep and was found by your friend in her shed where he'd been searching. Your friend gave him milk cookies and sent him on his way with the tool. Without your friend the toy couldn't be made! Maybe brown some paper with a tea bag roll up like a scroll and include a tool for your son to return to your friend???

Chelazla · 13/12/2016 16:53

Hope that makes sense!

BdumBdummer · 13/12/2016 16:56

How about your friend wrote to Santa and suggested this. What a cool suggestion!

We don't do the "everything come from Santa " but if a gift giver felt that strongly, this is what I would say,

sobeyondthehills · 13/12/2016 16:59

Makes perfect sense, I really like that, thank you :)
