Would this be suitable as shared present for two brothers aged 13 months and almost 3 years?

Would this be OK as a joint present for 2 brothers, aged 13 months and almost three? I would get some of the cars to go with it. DS had something similar when he was little and I do remember he played with it for hours, but I think he was a bit older. Is it a good idea anyway at their ages to buy a joint present? Don't want to cause any fraternal fights!

it would work out cheaper to get one of the sets rather than buying the track and cars separate. plus the track in that set is only tiny

Yesitsmeagain · 12/12/2016 23:21

Totally suitable for both ages. Perhaps the track shared hen their own vehicles each? Because the toddler will want to drive them
on the track and the baby will want to keep pushing the buttons!!

Thanks, seems a joint present is OK - maybe as long a they have a car each. I may have a look at different tracks/sets though, it is a bit small. Thanks again.

I think you would be better off getting wooden brio train track. Mine started playing with is between 12-18 months, and it's still played with almost daily at 7 years

We have toot toot and wooden train set here. My 2yr olds got toot toot as a 1st birthday present and played with the vehicles straight away. Now 2.5 they play with them on the track.

They've just started playing with the wooden train set. Their older siblings will play with either too. So I'd say either is a good choice, but the 13 month old will probably just play with vehicles initially.

I'd second a wooden train set if they don't already have one and if you want it to last longer.

Our toot toot stuff went in the loft when ds was about 3 1/2. Wooden train still played with the whole family!!

You need to check with parents before you bring toot toot into their lives! The songs are very, very irritating! We have that track (plus some other toot toot stuff)and it's a pain in the arse. Apart from the exact configuration of the track shown in the picture it's hard to make other tracks up- they just never seem to fit correctly. We also have a wooden one and it's much better imo, brio is the expensive one but supermarkets and John Lewis do one. There's also a make called Big Jig that so some nice trains that are compatible with the tracks.

Thanks for all the advice re toot toot - I stupidly didn't realise they made a noise . I remember the hell of singing toys! Perhaps a train track is a better choice, an addition to one they already have. Thanks again.

My boys are roughly that age. We have toot toot and wooden track. Both are played with regularly. Are you sure they don't already have it

What about something like this

It's a bit different from the norm

Artandco · 14/12/2016 09:45

ALso, space wise that even apart looks like it requires storage and space. A wooden one can go in a large basket with all other wooden bricks etc and be tidy away when not in use

NickyEds · 14/12/2016 14:31

Space wise it's not too bad really, it's just the songs! "I'm a car...A yellow car, I like driving around!" For. Hours.

I am a little tractor on my way to work.

Ah, toot toot songs. So pleased when the batteries run out Xmas Grin

What about a load of stickle bricks? Chew friendly and great fun. My two, 2 and 5, both like them. Or a wow toys each? No batteries required!

SpotTheDuck · 14/12/2016 15:31

Toot toot is the kind of gift you should only get somebody you dislike....the songs are so annoying I ended up taking the batteries out!

Wooden train tracks always a winner.

Or the happyland railway set? That went down well with mine when youngest was 1 and other was 3. It's half price at the moment too I think :)
