Over the head headphones

15 year old dd would like some over the head headphones. She's more concerned about how they look rather than quality, wants them to look nice. Any ideas please?

What is your budget? Ideally?

TomHaverford · 12/12/2016 06:33

Greatly depends on budget. If you're talking the lower end of the market then it's just a matter of looking at a sample range in store and choosing what looks best. At around the £100 mark beats by dre are very fashionable (but i don't think they're that great as headphones). The headphones I love are the bose noise cancelling headphones - ESPECIALLY if you use the tube. The latest bose noise cancelling headphones are around £270. The current generation (qc35) are wireless. However, if you go back one or two generations, the headphones are still excellent, they are just wired rather than wireless. Qc25 and qc15 you should be able to find between £100-£160. You can get them used for less than £100 on ebay and could buy replacement ear pads for about £10 on amazon. They're a quality product, my husband has been using his qc15 for the last 3-4 years basically every day on his commute to and from work and they're still working perfectly well.

If you're on a budget Skullcandy aren't a bad bet.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/12/2016 07:37

DS recommends Beats - his were around £129.00

But I have never known a teenager be not bothered about the quality of their headphones so I can't really advise on look! DS spent ages choosing his, and was only concerned getting the best quality for his money!

HallowedMimic · 12/12/2016 07:45

I agree with DoctorTwo . Skull candy do excellent headphones for a fraction of the cost of Beats etc.

They fold away nicely, and the wire from the earpiece to the PC/phone etc is replaceable, and not wired in.

That counts for a lot when your 'child' is prone to holding/swinging them by the wire...or chewing them. Confused Xmas Grin

Many of the skullcandy models are cheaper on Amazon.

Was just looking for something similar as a stocking filler for dd. (so definitely not Bose prices, though I'd love to try some to hear the difference!)

I have heard Beats aren't that good....but that it's all about the name. I have read very good things about SkullCandy too. They look cool to boot.

Dancergirl · 12/12/2016 09:10

Thanks, Skullcandy look great, I fancy a pair myself!

Bought some Skullcandy ones on Amazon for £30! Thanks, I'd never heard of this brand before.

That's the first time that a Mumsnetter has admitted to buying something I recommended. And the first time a Mumsnetter has posted "I agree with DoctorTwo". That double whammy has made my day. :o

user1477282676 · 13/12/2016 23:02

I also agree with DoctorTwo Grin
