Pudding ideas for Christmas eve

Swearwolf · 11/12/2016 10:00

Due to people being scattered for Christmas day, we're having a mini Christmas at MILs on Christmas eve afternoon, so the cousins can all open presents and gad about together. MIL is cooking dinner and I'm doing a pudding, but have no idea what to do! Not Christmas pudding as we'll all be having that on Christmas day.

So spam me with ideas! I thought maybe a fancy trifle, though SIL doesn't like cream (I know...) and it can't be too boozy for the toddlers. Maybe two small puddings then!

So... Anybody have any good ideas?

I'm doing pannatone bread and butter pudding, dh requested it🙄

I'm doing apple crumble as it's the kids favourite, with a choice of custard, cream or Christmas ice cream... A recipe from the back of a raisins pack years ago, has dried fruit, brandy etc.

Ooh, pannetone pudding could be good!

Tiramisu or trifle

M&S do some amazing deserts which you can pre-order to ensure you get what you want! Their profiterole dessert is amazing. Or their trifle is also amazing if you want to be completely different to a Christmas pudding

Apple crumble here (DH requesed Xmas Grin ) .
Nice Bramleys, lightly stewed, not too much sugar. Some porridge oats in the crumble mix.
Custard or ice-cream.

I've never made a Tiramisu..... (looks up recipe)

Over the festive period, I have a carton of Creme Brulee (Lakeland Devilish Desserts) , make up, chill for a few hours, sugar and my cooks blowtorch .

Yule log & cream (optional). Very festive.

Yesitsmeagain · 12/12/2016 23:19

I'd do posh boozy trifle for he grown ups and choc log for the kids and SIL

Allalonenow · 12/12/2016 23:24

Yule log or mince pies and brandy butter here, or maybe black forest trifle.

Delia chocolate bread and butter pudding. It's a crowd pleaser! Make it. Day or two before and leave in the fridge then just bake when ready. Best with cream or vanilla ice cream. You can leave out the rum for kids or those that don't like it

I am doing sticky toffee pudding on Christmas Day by popular request. With extra toffee sauce and clotted cream, yum.

dH also wants a trifle 'handy' over the festive period.

I'm doing a trifle for friends gathering on Christmas Eve, then I'm making another one on Christmas morning as my contribution to Christmas dinner at sister in laws house. I hosted last year so it's her turn this year. It will be a big trifle as we are 14 this year !

ferngrubb · 13/12/2016 14:45

I making Trifle as well, this year I'm going to do a black forest one.

Swearwolf · 14/12/2016 09:36

Ooh, black forest trifle sounds amazing! I think I've decided on pannetone bread and butter pudding - I was saying to MIL at the weekend that I couldn't decide, and at the mention of the pannetone pudding she perked right up because it's her absolute favourite (who knew??). I figure since she's hosting us all it would be nice to do that one. I've seen some fancypants alcoholic vanilla cream in waitrose which would go with it beautifully Smile

I've ordered the M&S profiteroles, I'm going to make a merengue the day before with winter berries, and ill probably do a queen of Puddings as well as it is my absolute favourite!!
Yum.

ferngrubb · 14/12/2016 11:31

Are you putting alcohol in the puddingSwearwolf I usually do but that cream sounds lovely, I think I will get some. My Christmas shopping list is beginning to be as long as loo roll! I love Queen of puddings A1Sharon

My Christmas staple is Nigella's chocolate cheesecake. It's easy enough for me to do it and is a definite crowd pleaser. You can decorate with gold stars to make it more festive looking.
