I have absolutely no clue what to get my son for Christmas. He is more or less a typical 4 year old.

What have you got your kids? Any ideas?

Bike
Scooter
Trampoline

Redesul · 10/12/2016 18:44

Would love to get him a bike but unfortunately can't afford one, he has a scooter, and no garden for trampoline :(

What's your budget?

Artandco · 10/12/2016 19:16

My 5 year old was 4 years last Christmas, his favourite was a chess set. He learnt to play after and now plays with it all the time still.

Also craft stuff. Some pencils, pens, paper, glue and scissors and keeps them occupied hours. Can buy all that for £10 total

itsnotfair10 · 10/12/2016 19:18

What sort of things does he like? My a is a bit younger at 3, but loves superheroes -maybe a dress up outfit with cape?

Redesul · 10/12/2016 19:29

Budget, probably about £40-50.

He's actually 4 in march but that's not far away.

Artandco-- a chess set? wow! I think my son would struggle with that, but good on yours for learning :D I'm impressed.

He loves cars but we're always wanting to avoid that sort of thing as he has so many... He loves Star Wars, Blaze & The Monster Machines, action figures, trains, thunderbirds, animals, all that sort of thing.

He loves crafting but I'm an artist and already have tons of that sort of thing, I've also made him his own dress up outfits etc. Sorry, I don't mean to shoot down everyone's ideas. I think basically we're looking for something really different. Something animal themed could be good?

I'd thought about one of those Fisher Price Code a Pillars, does anybody have any experience with those? If it's really good I could stretch to that price.

I've also thought of a colour changing chameleon that reads out the colours and stuff like that, but my partner and I can't seem to agree on that one

Take and play Thomas set.
Hot wheels.
Imaginex
Lego juniors

BonesyBones · 10/12/2016 19:40

The Playskool Millennium Falcon might me a good one for a child who loves star wars and action figures. I've bought one for my DS who is 8 but plays more like a 5-6year old due to SN. It looks quite impressive.

Redesul · 10/12/2016 19:46

BonesyBones Already got that one, got it last year :D He got some money from a grandparent and asked to buy it. He adores it. Did you get it him for xmas? They are very sturdy, my son can be quite rough with his from time to time, movable bits are designed to come off so it doesn't break.

Playmobil? Mine at 4 loved the zoo set.

Equimum · 10/12/2016 19:58

What about some Schleich or Papo animals? Our nearly four year old loves them. We have lots of farm animals and are now starting to collect sea creatures.

Nearlyadoctor · 10/12/2016 20:05

Was also going to suggest Playmobil - pirate ship / knight hawk castle.
Lego juniors
Happyland
Brio train set

Redesul · 10/12/2016 20:06

Just had a quick look at the Papo stuff on Amazon, the knights look awesome.

Playmobil zoo set is definitely interesting.

Spynet stuff is brilliant.

The night-vision goggles are probably in your price bracket.

Notso · 10/12/2016 20:11

My four year old loves playmobil. Last year him and DS2 got the police station and Ferris wheel, this year they are getting the space sets and petting zoo.

Swearwolf · 10/12/2016 20:18

My boy is 4 and just had his birthday at the end of September so we were struggling too. I've got him loads of stocking bits, lego (he's just started on proper lego), a Mr potato head and an easel. He's well into his art too, so I figured an easel would be a good bet Smile

Grumpbum · 10/12/2016 20:21

Mobilo my son loved the stuff at that age

MrsNuckyThompson · 10/12/2016 20:27

Have a look on your local FB selling pages and eBay. At that age they have no idea if things are second hand or whatever so you might make the budget stretch quite a bit further. My almost 4 year old is getting:

Secondhand bike
Play Mobil
Iron man play set
2 x Roald Dahl books
PJs

Redesul · 10/12/2016 20:35

Same boat Swearwolf, got him his stocking bits and bobs, aiming to get him a box of classic lego bits to suppliment what he's got, but a main gift idea is stumping me. I don't want to go too over the top with too many little things as my partners family are very generous and get him loads.

Second hand is fine with me, my partner would rather something new but would easily be swayed to second hand as long as it's in good condition.

Redesul yes we've bought it for Xmas, he doesn't even know it exists and I'm pretty sure he'll love it. Glad to hear it's hard wearing!

You say you can't afford a bike on a £40 budget but maybe you can if it's something you like the idea of. Or does your DS like heroes? The imaginext batcave (old version) is around £30ish and really good.

ScarletForYa · 10/12/2016 21:33

Anything Batman, Spider-Man and Captain America!

fruitpastille · 10/12/2016 21:34

Get a castle then you can ask for knights, dragons, catapult etc if anyone else asks it for. his birthday. I think ELC do a nice wooden one.
