Posh cheese biscuits, chutney, sweet biscuits, posh tea...

smEGGnogg · 09/12/2016 14:55

Film night?
Posh breakfast?
Games night?
Gardening?

Islacornx · 09/12/2016 14:56

I agree with PP on the posh cheese/biscuits/tea etc..
also any Bath things they might like? Bubble bath/oils etc?
A pair of slippers each?

It depends what they like really, say if they're into gardening then maybe some gardening gloves each and a gardening book and some seeds? Or if they're into cooking then a cook book and maybe some spices?

Puzzle books, nice pen, Xmas themed mugs, box of posh chocolates, those hot chocolate spoon stirrers with a square of chocolate on them, Luxury mince pies....

bigredfireengine · 09/12/2016 15:24

What do they like? You need to think about them as people.Gifts need to be personal and not just generic tat to fill a basket- that is why you would do a hamper rathe than but a ready made gift.

I would be pretty bemused if someone bought me puzzle books, slippers, or mugs but others may enjoy them if that is their thing. Are they in a care home?

Posh lemon curd, a cheese knife, nice tea bags.

CurlyMango · 11/12/2016 14:31

Completely agree with bigredfireengine. Unless it's contents are personal to them it's more for you thank them.

Previously we've put this kind of things in for DPs parents:

  • Posh cheese and biscuits with chutney as FIL loves cheese
  • Labrador shaped chocs as they have a Labrador
  • Sloe port, FIL loves port
  • Baileys Luxe, MIL loves Baileys
  • Biscotti
  • Posh ceramic hanging bird house (keen gardeners)
  • Naice gardening gloves
  • Mugs featuring a lab on one and a collie on another (their dogs) with chocs in
  • Benedicks mint chocs (a fave of theirs)
  • Mixed nuts (they like them)

I'm doing a food hamper for pil. We live in the lake district and they love being tourists when they visit so i've put in all locally produced stuff like mint cake liquer & grasmere gingerbread

MTWTFSS · 11/12/2016 15:43

Honey with honeycomb in jar

wobblywonderwoman · 11/12/2016 16:00

We do hampers for dh parents.

Bottle of whiskey, toiletries, fancy jams etc. luxury biscuits, m&s tea bags, nice soap, lottery ticket, local butcher voucher (they are on pension)

They are elderly.

For younger - might be nice to throw in cinema vouchers etc

chanie44 · 11/12/2016 18:54

I agree with the PP who suggested it should be personal to them. Ask your OH what they like and buy their favourite products. I'm sure they will be touched if you do that.

How about putting in some Xmas socks for them? You can get them from Tesco, 3 for £5. They are my generic go to gift.
