Mulled booze - adjusting ABV

I've got friends coming for Christmas drinks on a Saturday and I was planning on offering (among other things) mulled wine and mulled cider. Some guests will want low alcohol drinks, others will want the hard stuff!

Will this work, do you think:

prepare vats of mulled wine and cider that have been boiled off for a while to cook off large amounts of the alcohol, to act as a base.

Have brandy, dark rum and sloe gin separately for guests to top up the mulled wine or cider "base" to make it properly boozy.

And maybe orange and apple juice to top up the base in the other direction?

Cinnamon sticks and orange slices as garnish.

I can't work out if it's a great idea or a terrible one..... Xmas Smile

Sounds a bit too much like hard work. And I do not understand why you would want to boil off any alcohol!

I would offer mulled wine or mulled apple juice and let them moderate for themselves.

If yo are nearLidl they do a mulled punch, children's mulled wine, DD says its lovely, if some one wants a weaker drink they could mix it with mulled wine

RIbena winter spice, served hot does not taste like ribena but an non alcoholic mulled wine and it is fab. If I was driving I would not trust drinking something where some of the alcohol as been boiled off.

Thanks for responses.

heir that's a good point. No one is driving but I am breastfeeding/caring for a baby, and one other guest has an early start the next morning.

goose not near a Lidl but I will investigate other non-alcohol options. I think I assumed premade alcohol free mulled wine would be horrible, so it's good to know some brands are nice

sixty You make a good point! I can see it's a convoluted way of going about it. We've just got tons of red wine and cloudy cider so I wanted to use it up but realistically can only make two hot punches (so not an alcoholic and non-alcoholic version of both). Maybe one wine and one apple juice is best.

Thank you!

Mulled wine works well in a slow cooker if you've got one
