DS finally came up with something he wanted - ankle weights to wear when running Confused I had a look online and really feel this is not a good idea - he has weird feet, is growing at a rate of knots and I don't think should have extra strain on his joints at the moment.

He is now out of ideas. So am I. This shouldn't be that hard - I am feeling like a crap parent. He's getting 'experiences' from us for his birthday (early January) and from his GM for Christmas. He likes running, fitness, drama, computer games, is interested in film special effects. I don't want (and can't afford) to give him a PS4 or an Xbox. He recently saved up and bought himself a 3ds game. I thought about a GoPro but we would struggle to afford it, is there a cheaper version that is any good? Any other ideas??

I have sympathy but am no use (I own a 13 year old DS who feels he has everything he needs). Am hoping for inspiration.

What about a Fitbit type thing but cheaper brand. £25-£40ish on Amazon.

Fitbit seemed like a great idea but he has said no - should just have bought the damn thing! Also doesn't want his own dumbbells. Has a punchbag. Miranda, what about a punchbag? Ds has used his a surprising amount.

Virtual reality headset for about £10 if he has a phone.
The Sainsburys animation film making set thing is £5 I think.
Headphones can be inexpensive if from argos or somewhere.
Pull up bar.

We bought DS some agility stuff last year. He loves football and running, so we got him a floor ladder, some poles to stick in the grass and some cones. He can run in and out of them, set himself 'obstacle' courses in the garden etc. and he practises some of the drills from football training. The whole lot cost less than £60.

This year (he's 12) he wants a particular tracksuit -Nike CR7 training tracksuit? It's quite expensive, but it's his main present.

He also loves the sidemen. I'm slightly apprehensive regarding whether he's old enough to follow them but have relented and bought him their book and a hoodie.

Also got him a book about Didier Drogba, which he found and has managed to get it out of me early! He's not read a full book since he was 9, so he won me over with his enthusiasm! Sports autobiographies are maybe a hit!
