Please help! I need ideas for a main present for 10 year old DD. She's just asking for surprises. Don't want to buy an electronic gadget / TV or mobile phone which would be an easy win but she's not asking for them and would prefer to wait as long as possible (she uses ours anyway!)
Really grateful if you can give me some ideas. What are you buying yours?

Dd just wants clothes/books/hair accessories. Boring really!

Ellliebelle · 06/12/2016 20:22

My dd1 will be 10 in January. She hasn't really asked for much just a 3d maker really, we have decided to get her a sewing machine and fabric as she really likes watching youtube videos and making things for her dolls. She is also getting a flute as she plays, a magazine subscription, earings and a hair dryer

wishparry · 06/12/2016 20:30

How about some jewellery?

daisydalrymple · 06/12/2016 20:37

fuji instax mini camera? Ds1 & dd (7&9) had them last year and have loved them. Or Polaroid have a more expensive one out this year (I think £90ish) which also has ability to save to sd card.

Gettingthereslowly1 · 06/12/2016 20:49

Thank you so much for your ideas!
I have kept toying with the idea of a fuji instax camera. Have been looking on Amazon (approx £65) you don't have any tips for buying good priced refill papers do you?
And is the 3D maker a pen or the magic maker kit?
A friend suggested a pandora bracelet but am thinking maybe it's s bit too pricey /could get lost.
Have just ordered cath kidston sew a rag doll book from another Mumsnet thread on ideas which looks good, she loves sewing.
Keep the ideas coming - it's really helping - very grateful!

How about tickets to somewhere like a musical/show?
We're taking dd 10 to see Harry Potter with a full symphony orchestra as a 'big' present. (This is a joint present for me Grin)

daisydalrymple · 06/12/2016 21:14

No the cost of the refill films is the one thing that lets the camera down- the dcs are reluctant to use their pocket money on them and £14 is quite steep for the double pack. That's why the Polaroid, although more expensive initially would probably end up more cost effective in the long run.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 06/12/2016 21:18

Has dd shown any interest in cameras or taking photos? It's quite expensive if it's going to sit in a cupboard somewhere.

Dd is 10 and I showed her the instax camera on a vlog and she wasn't interested at all. She takes pictures with her iPod and an old canon digital camera that we had.

Like your dd mine hasnt really got any big ticket items. Just things like clothes, books, smellies, fairy lights for her room, toys to add to things she already plays with.

DramaInPyjamas · 06/12/2016 21:22

My daughters main presents are a camcorder
And a popcorn machine

FairyPenguin · 06/12/2016 21:26

Yes tickets to a show - Matilda is supposed to be excellent. Or another day out - theme park? Keeper for a day?

A big Lego set? Books / book tokens?

Something from Smiggle?

A day out shopping with a small budget?

Grumpyoldblonde · 06/12/2016 21:27

Popcorn machines are fabulous! Looks like a big gift but very good value.

ispymincepie · 06/12/2016 21:34

My 10yo dd is getting a metal detector!

WellyMummy · 06/12/2016 22:08

Mine has really enjoyed having her own sewing machine, £64 from Amazon. She had a theatre trip as her birthday present and she's having a desk and chair for Christmas, and an Osmo kit, lots of books and the usual underwear, sleepwear and glittery bits and bobs.

Cagliostro · 06/12/2016 22:12

Before I read that she likes sewing I was going to suggest a machine. DD has the Janome 145M which is small but decent.

pineappleeyes · 06/12/2016 22:13

My dd1 is 10 in January. She's getting a phone but her other gifts are, fab lab 4 in one set, chemistry set, books, jojo siwa bows Angry at the cost of them! Smiggle stuff. New boots, jeans, make up & hair brushes.
Experience days are a good gift. I thought about getting my dd a climbing one.
How about tickets to a concert of her favery popstar/band.
Popcorn machine is a great idea...Might steal that one Wink

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 06/12/2016 22:16

My 10yo dd is getting some lego and some playmobil bits (I know she is getting a bit old for it but she still plays with playmobil loads!)

She also likes anything to do with crystals so got her some crystal mining kits.

How about heelies? Am wondering about these for for her 11th bday which is a few weeks after Christmas!!

Its a tricky age I think as they are so in-between phases!!

MsHybridFanGirl · 06/12/2016 22:59

Girlie - my DD just turned 11 and has massively got into Playmobil this year - she for some for bday and will be getting the children's hospital for Xmas. I love that she still plays with dolls/ toys as well as having iPad/iPhone.

DD is getting:

Playmobil
David Walliams book
Bag / onesie
Fluffy pyjamas / socks
Ugg boots
DVD's
Usual stocking bits etc

We saw Matilda in the summer it is fab! Aladdin is out now and also supposed to be great, Harry Potter tour tickets etc?

Patriciathestripper1 · 06/12/2016 23:07

Bought DD, 9, a kayak.
She is also having:
Popcorn maker
Our generation horse and foal
New headphones
5 dvds
Pony annual
Books
Horse likits (for her pony)
Plaiting bands (also for pony)
Le meiux sheepskin halfpad (also for pony)
Unicorn pjs
And other little stocking fillers.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 07/12/2016 12:52

MrsHybrid our girls sound similar! Dd has just finished reading the new David Walliams book (she bought it with her money as couldn't wait for Christmas!!) and really loved it! Good to know its not that unusual that she still likes her playmobil, I had a friend round the other day who made out it was really unusual for a 10yo Hmm

Love to hear about other girls still into toys at this age. My 9 year old is getting lego elves kits and a zoomer hedgie. She's also getting mountains of stuff like candle making kits, stationery, books, little mix cd, geodes etc. We got the dc an indoor skydiving voucher last Christmas which was a huuuuuuuuge hit!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 07/12/2016 16:04

My daughter loves her American girl and our generation dolls. She has a doll red hair ans glasses coming for Christmas as her list says doll with glasses. It's really cute.
Also the camper van from the our generation range.

But then on the flip side she wants make up and smellies!

DragonMamma · 07/12/2016 17:56

My dd is having a sprocket printer and a camcorder as she makes tonnes of videos.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 07/12/2016 18:06

My DD is 11. She's getting a instax camera and a big add-on kit with photo frames, a carry case and lots of cute bits and pieces.
She's also got little mix tickets.. Maybe look into something like that?

MsHybridFanGirl · 07/12/2016 20:56

Girlie - people are surprised that DD still plays with dolls too! But in the same breath people moan that children grow up too quickly these days!

The more time she spends with dolls / Playmobil means less time on her iPhone or watching TV so I'm happy with that!
