As I assume its steak pie!!!

What are you having and do you do a special meal on NYD?

We are lentil soup, steak pie and then ice cream. Same lunch on NYD for 40 years!

My mum used to always have a vienetta!

If we stay at home we cook any old thing but if we go to parents it aill be steak pie. I dont like the sound of deep fried mars bar etc but i do love a deep fried half pizza from the chippy........ think thats a scottish thing...... and drown it in brown sauce 😆

Haudyerwheesht · 06/12/2016 19:58

I've had a deep fried mars bar - it was ok. Weirdly though I had it in Canada, not at home.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 06/12/2016 20:01

We have steak pie before the bells, hangover food on nyd. I'm Scottish and go full on shortbread mode at Hogmanay. I'm excited noo.Grin

PenguinsandPebbles · 06/12/2016 20:05

Lighthearted threat. Grin

Be happy. Or else.

Yeah stop threatening people OP...

Dear old step dad used to always want a steak pie on NYE had no idea it was because of him being a Scott I just always thought he loved steak pie Smile

Knowing this I may have to have steak pie now, but I normally do nibbles and a big bowl of home made butternut squash soup with sausages and crusty roles.

Laska5772 · 06/12/2016 20:10

Can anyone post their recipe for pie please? .. I am doing pies for Boxing Day .
Was thinking of a game pie and a chicken one, but steak pie sounds good..

we are pretty much as far south as you can get in the UK and not be on a Channel isle

MrEBear · 06/12/2016 20:11

Steak pie, but I haven't touched vienetta since I left one on a worktop overnight. It didn't melt into a puddle the way I would have expected ice cream too.

Shenanagins · 06/12/2016 20:28

Redglitter triffle without jelly, what kind of weirdness is that 😮

TimetohittheroadJack · 06/12/2016 20:28

My steak pie recipe, handed down through generations (😜) involves getting a big silverside joint before Christmas when the are on offer, freezing until needed then cutting it up (obviously after defrosting) and slowly cooking with oxo/gravy (feel free to add veg, garlic, onion) Fry sausages of your choice to remove excess oil. Add all together and put (shop bought or make your own) puff pastry on the top.
Serve with potatoes/aunt Bessie frozen roast potatoes/marks and Spencer's potato croquettes.

And chuck a few packets of steam fresh veg in the microwave.

A Michelin star may be out of my reach, but tastes great and doesn't require a huge amount of effort .

Redglitter · 06/12/2016 21:38

Jack That actually sounds nice. Next time I see it on a menu I might try one Smile

Shenanigans Jelly in a trifle is just wrong Xmas Grin

BBlackberryStone · 06/12/2016 21:44

Steak pie?! I'm having Anadin and a cry, that's why we have an extra Bank Holiday Grin

WankersHacksandThieves · 06/12/2016 22:21

Steak Pie with white stovies and buttered cabbage and brown sauce.

No starter, no pudding.

Shenanagins · 06/12/2016 22:41

Triffle without jelly, weirdo 😄

MissStein · 06/12/2016 22:53

Scotland here, but my suggestion would be leg of lamb. I dont like steak pie so am loathed to cook it for a special occasion.

giggly · 06/12/2016 23:53

I'll just stick my oar in as well..Steak pie here as well as it is for all the Scottish people I know. None of your foreign fancy food in this house on NYD😈😈😈

SirChenjin · 07/12/2016 09:57

Steak pie of course, made with wee willy winkies. There was actually a law passed a few years ago that you have to have this on NYD - true fact.

WankersHacksandThieves · 07/12/2016 11:52

What's with everyone shoving sausages in their steak pie? Saw this in the canteen at work a few weeks ago and thought wtf? Confused

MrsJayy · 07/12/2016 11:55

I suggested to the husband we have a gammon roast or something new year's day poor man had a petted lip so we had soup and steak pie he did make it tbf

MrsJayy · 07/12/2016 11:55

Last year*

SirChenjin · 07/12/2016 11:55

How on earth have the culinary delights of sausages in your steak pie passed you by? Shock Got to be wee willy winkies though - best thing ever.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 07/12/2016 11:56

Noooooo! No sausages in steak pie. Minging. And wee willy winkies are not sausages (sorry SirC Grin)

MrsJayy · 07/12/2016 11:56

Urm you need sausage in it law innit

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 07/12/2016 11:57

We have roast beef with all the bits

And trifle. With jelly

SirChenjin · 07/12/2016 12:00

No they are not IBelieve - but they are essential for the best ever steak pie Grin. Got to be thick puff pastry too with a brown top and substantial underneath - can't stand namby pamby thin pastry that crumbles into dust when you stick your fork in it Angry

MrsJayy · 07/12/2016 12:02

What the Jeff is white stovies? Is it just the potato and onion?

MrsJayy · 07/12/2016 12:03

I might try wee Willie winkies this year
