My brother has finally given me an idea of what to buy my nephew for Christmas. He likes watching Japanese Anime on you tube. He's 13 but has sen which mean he is a lot younger in his ways. So I need to find some good Japanese Anime, dubbed in English, that isn't too grown up and sophisticated. Does anyone have any recommendations?! Thanks!

Ponyo is a firm favourite here Smile

Any of the Studio Ghibli ones, if he hasn't seen them already: Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service etc.

It's quite hard to find other anime on DVD here (and many of them are quite adult/older teenage), unless you have a branch of Forbidden Planet near you, in which case you could ask the staff for recommendations.

Yes Howl's moving castle, Arrietty (the borrowers) - but I agree, much of it is more teenage.

Thank you both so much! I will Google Forbidden Planet now but I doubt we have one near us, I've not heard of it anyway. Amazon will probably sort me out!

Not all studio ghibli is suitable. Don't buy him Grave of the Fireflies (it's great but harrowing).

There is loads of anime for kids and teenagers. But it very much depends what he's actually in to. Bring into anime is like being into film or tv - it's just the medium and there are all sorts of genres to choose from.

Another vote for ponyo!

Speak to your DB about what he has already seen though. He may well have seen a lot of the well known stuff intended for younger viewers. Howl's Moving Castle is on YouTube in full for example.

Have a look at Steamboy :)
