Help wise mumsnetters,
What do I get a 3yr old who has lots and lots of toys. Her mum told me to get "anything princess or Barbie relates" and I just can't bring myself to (this is a little girl who told me she could't read a dinosaur book because it was for boys and she was a girl, girls have pink books Ffs). So what do I get her? I want something she will enjoy ...is it impossible?

Haha notice the painted nails 😁 at least they were red to match the costume 😂

I do agree with soubriquet though, primarily you should get something she will like. I've had small girl relatives who were very into pink and princesses and "girls toys" and I did just buy them what they would enjoy. My own dd is into more of a mix.

The mini animator doll sets from Disney are really lovely, and not all "pink"

Or the Lego Juniors "girls" sets. It's still Lego.

Play doh? There are loads of princess themed sets . Dd adores play doh

Something related to Merida from Brave? So still a Disney Princess, but not quite so stereotypically pink & dainty.

How about a craft box? Fill with different colour paper, sparkles, stickers, child safety scissors, pritt stick, pipe cleaners, etc etc (check out pound shop craft aisle for inspiration). Then it can be loads of colours, including pink and sparkly and is something to do rather than yet more pink plastic tat?

Soubriquet - up to a point, but if a kid is only ever given the type of toy that he or she 'likes' at such a young age, how will they ever know if they might also like something different? It isn't just about value judgements of certain types of toy - a child whose parent said, oh, any educational wooden toy, might like the odd barbie or whatever the boy equivalent is.

Latetotheparty beat me to it, I was going to say something to do with Princess Merida, still a Disney princess but fights against the stereotypical role of a princess. I believe you can buy a Merida bow and arrow!

I do agree with what others have said though, some children just naturally gravitate towards the traditional thought of toys for their gender. My DS is dinosaur, cars, superheroes mad, he also has baby dolls etc but he just naturally prefers your typical 'boy' toys!
