Don't you worry about finding something better?

I have 3 people to buy for at around 30 quid each, so that's 1 or 2 decent presents (rather than a pile of crap). I started thinking about ideas of what to get about a week ago, and I've now bought a couple of presents, but I keep holding off on buying stuff in case I think of a better idea! I think it's partly because I don't want to be "done" with christmas shopping when there is still 3 weeks to go.

People who buy presents in october, I envy your organisaton Grin (and yes, I realise I am lucky to only have 5 or so presents to buy)

No, I feel an immense sense of relief that I don't have to keep thinking about it, and can turn my mind to aspects of Christmas that I find more fun than shopping. But no-one in my family is too obsessed with "the perfect gift". As long as everyone has something they will find reasonably enjoyable, that's fine.

I must admit I regret buying earlier this year for two reasons.

  1. My niece has changed her mind about what she wants
  2. I've seen loads of offers and money off toys that I've already bought now! I don't mind buying the adults earlier, there less likely to change there mind. Also, I haven't seen any money off or codes for their items so am pleased about that. I understand not wanting to be done already. I still read the bargain thread but feel a bit redundant! lol I'm glad I do have the adults (Mostly.) out of the way now though. :)

I buy for some people on my list in January when the current year's Christmas items are on 50% off.
Classics like cashmere sweaters and holiday themed socks etc.

i buy adult presents through the year whenever there are sales or offers on as usually there's very little mind changing about what they want. Toys i wait until a bit later in the year to get those as children often do change their minds depending on what they are currently into but things like stationary and clothes, that sort of thing, i buy whenever i see something nice. Perfumes and aftershaves, i try to get int he january sales as they keep well as long as they are stored properly and it saves a lot of money when the next xmas rolls round and because i know what people wear/what they like the smell of, i can get better stuff or bigger bottles for a lot cheaper than in the run up to xmas itself

OlennasWimple · 04/12/2016 02:06

I buy stuff throughout the year when I see things that are perfect or heavily reduced (preferably both!). I keep an eye on things that I think are likely to be reduced and hold off buying in the run up to big sales (like Black Friday). I hate leaving things to the last minute, and hate even more finding the perfect gift but then finding it out of stock when I go back to buy it.

I keep a little notebook with a list of everyone I need to buy for, and ideas for presents, then tick them off when they are bought. (My current book goes back eight years, and I'd like to claim that I look back to avoid getting the same thing twice in a row, but I always mean to do that each year but forget...)
