9 year old - knex, Lego, nerf gun
13 year old - funky earphones (I just got ds1 some from boots for £12), toiletries like jack wills or superdry (boots again), game voucher

toiletries like jack wills or superdry (boots again)

Toiletries are never a gift. When my DS and Dd hit teens that was all they got. They were always polite and said thank-you but they were always disappointed. Toiletries are a necessity. Like buying tampax for an adult or a packet of razor blades.

Badders123 · 02/12/2016 19:33

Well
I'm sure that's true of your children
But not ALL children surely?

Chocolatecake12 · 02/12/2016 19:43

My teenage ds hates toiletries as a present too.
He would rather have a costa gift card, or chocolate.
One thing that's gone down well are a pair of dumbells which you can get for your budget from Argos or sports direct etc.
For the 9 yr old pp had it with nerf gun!! Or anything Pokémon related.

iTunes voucher

But not ALL children surely?

Never met a teen who say yippee I got a boots deodorant set! Putting deodorant into a box doesn't make it a gift. It is still deodorant!

A few years ago about 20 teens had a crap gift (sorry unwanted) post christmas swap at our house and all the lynx etc sets went to the homeless shelter as no-one wanted them

Badders123 · 02/12/2016 20:41

I didn't say lynx (I agree a bit naff)
I said jack wills or Superdry
I don't buy toiletries for my DC but some DC like them!

Pin art
Electric shock game
Popcorn maker

I8toys · 03/12/2016 17:39

Not imaginative I know but cold hard cash or a giftcard of some sort would be appreciated by my two. Smellies wouldn't be appreciated by them - me maybe - but not them!!

wizzler · 03/12/2016 18:12

I have bought DS (12) a mug set in which he can make brownies for his own consumption in the microwave..

A gamer T Shirt.. " Home is where the WIFI is" etc

and after a serious conversation he has explained that just because I think its a cop out to give him vouchers, doesnt mean that he does ..

MrsFrTedCrilly · 06/12/2016 20:59

Bubble science kit
Animation Praxinoscope
Both adored by any boys we have given them to

Blueflowers2011 · 07/12/2016 09:32

Agree, really dislike receiving toiletries for myself let alone for my boys, i dont feel it's a 'real' gift. I always end up giving mine away to anyone who wants it use, or a local charity.

pumpkinpie5 · 07/12/2016 09:35

Hey bug nano and similar are half price at the moment in the entertainer at £15. Have bought a couple as Christmas presents for similar aged boys.

pumpkinpie5 · 07/12/2016 09:36

Hexbug arrgh...

atticusclaw2 · 07/12/2016 09:37

9YO - lego - argos have two lego superheroes sets for £10 atm. They're little but a great present. I bought two for DN for Christmas the other day and DS2 (9) has been lusting over them.
Nerf Gun- perhaps but be prepared for the fact that he's likely to have one already. Most of my DS's friends have piles of them. They're a standard birthday party present.

13 YO, headphones? CD? Graphic Novel? Board game - something like exploding kittens?

Hersetta427 · 07/12/2016 10:06

Although I have a 9 yr old DD, her entire class is obsessed with smiggle at the moment so I would say a pencil case and a few novelty pencils and rubbers.

TwoGunslingers · 07/12/2016 10:15

I think lego is a safe bet, but then I'm a smellies gifter so don't trust me Grin

rosiebg · 07/12/2016 11:33

A football - my DS10 has always hated lego and other creative toys, but loves any sport. He is currently coveting Nike footballs at Sports Direct £15 each or two for £20. Would also second Smiggle.

imnervous · 07/12/2016 13:11

My 8 year old likes the look of the spygear range

imnervous · 07/12/2016 13:13

Posted too quickly!

My 13 year old likes sports tops from sports direct - adidas and Nike both have a good selection, usually laid on a table, or you can get plain coloured football style shirts with matching shorts. DS loves those
