Hi,
Can anyone recommend some good books for 5year old boys. My son loves being read to and has loads of books so I am looking for some original suggestions!

Thanks

My boy loves the Dirty Bertie books, they're the first non-picture books he's got into (they do still have some pix though!). A set of ten is usually about a tenner on Book People, or they had them in TK Maxx recently too. Also, the Pirates Next Door series he loves too. He's just getting into fact books as well.

Aliens Love Underpants series.

I second Dirty Bertie. Also Roald Dahl, Claude books by Alex T Smith and Wigglesbottom Primary series by Pamela Butchart.

We have all the roald Dahl books and aliens love underpants but I will have a look at the dirty Bertie series.

My ds is 5. I really didn't like reading Dirty Bertie as it was, well, as you might expect from the title Grin

My ds likes Horrid Henry, The Secret Seven, and has recently got into the Dinosaur Cove series - two boys adventuring back in time with dinosaurs so if he likes that sort of thing, I recommend it.

He also really enjoyed the My Naughty Little Sister books last year, and asks to have them again soon.

My 5yo dd has recently enjoyed a marvel superheroes set and a star wars set of early reader books from the book people. Other favorites are Flat Stanley, the Minikid series from Michael Morpurgo and The Tomten books by Astrid Lingren.

For Christmas she is getting My Naughty Little Sister, Olga de Polga, Mrs Pepperpot and Pippin Longstocking, all of which I think she'll enjoy.

The Harry Horse books are really sweet. They are about a grandfather going on adventures with his very silly dog Roo, and then writing home to his grandchild about each. Each chapter is a letter.

They are nicely surreal, very gentle and make my two DSs laugh like drains.

My 5yo ds absolutely adored the wishing chair books by Enid Blyton (I had to change how I read some of the more sexist bits!)
