Because it's the present I also get stuck on and I don't say a similar thread lurking about.

1st teacher male, mid 30's, sporty, funny likes football and coffee.
2nd teacher female late 40s but very glam, likes make-up, jewellery.

I've absolutely no ideas so far but they're both brilliant with my kids so would like to get it right.

Bigredfirengine I fear it is not a local tradition but the curse of the day fingers on a small screen... meant chocs!

Starbucks or Costa vouchers for the weekends when we don't have to drink shit staffroom coffee out of a mouldy mug!

Cinema vouchers would be good too.

wobblywonderwoman · 24/11/2016 23:54

I love all my presents but especially small vouchers.

Last year I got a bouquet of flowers and voucher for a facial from one pupil (massively generous and unexpected buy we had a fantastic year and great progress) I also love pretty photo frames. Tree decorations. Stationary. Earrings. Hand cream. Pens.

But absolutely it is more than enough to get a thank you. More than enough. I know parents do not always have in easy and we are already paid for all we do.

Like others I never expect any gifts but everything is always cherished. I'm unsure about expensive baubles - am a bit bossy about Christmas decorations in my house, and that's my personal life not my school life. Also it's not personal. Anything handmade would go on my school tree for evermore.

Sure fire winners - wine, homemade shortbread, cards, coffee... Obviously, am already paid for my job so I expect nothing x

If anyone likes coffee, buy a nero gift card, i love my coffee but starbucks? thats not for genuine coffee lovers its shite!

I'm a teacher. I like booze and chocolates. I buy my kid's teachers/TAs....booze and chocolates. I make handmade felt Christmas decorations and give them all one of those too.

Not chocolates, as the daughter of a teacher we used to get so much at Christmas we were still eating it at Easter, his favourite was a picture one of his pupils painted for him, it's still on display and he's been retired for nearly 20 years

My go to teacher presents have been Emma Bridgewater mugs or Newbridge silverware or Belleek China Christmas decorations.
I'm a teacher and love to get a handwritten card tbh. My two favourite presents ever have been a pencil Xmas decoration and a book token.

I'll be sending in a tin of biscuits for the staff room as dd is in secondary now. Used to buy Prosecco and chocolates for her teachers in primary though as I figured they could always re gift if it wasn't to their liking.

insan1tyscartching · 26/11/2016 00:04

Love the Belleek and Newbridge recommendations Agnes not for dd's teachers but for myself Flowers

As a teacher, I say get them nothing, but write them a letter to say how much you value them and the difference they make to your child. If they are secondary school teachers, that expression of appreciation extremely rare and probably the most meaningfull thing that you could do.

insan1tyscartching · 26/11/2016 00:19

smells I have emailed one or two of dd's teachers on occasion and it has always gone down extremely well. On occasion I have even copied in HT. I got a call from the food teacher who had been tearful as no one had ever passed on a message of appreciation before but she had gone above and beyond to include dd in spite of her SEN and severe food allergies.

Smellslikeoranges · 26/11/2016 00:27

insan1tyscartching that is so nice of you. It is a tough job and things like that make such a difference. Really touching to hear how your message affected the food tech teacher.
