Colours and theme for Christmas tree

Anyone fancy sharing their colours and themes for Christmas decor?! Particularly your trees?

I chose mine based on rooms because I like a variety so we have very classic red and gold in the hallway - lots of holly, mistletoe and classic Santas etc.

We have a tree in the sunroom which DS decorates with our Disney decorations and lots of multicoloured felt decorations.

My main tree I have done the last few years in pale pink and white with a bit of silver. It suits our colour scheme in the room and I love all my decorations but everywhere I look this year I see pink and white/silver! Any suggestions to change it up a bit by adding another colour which I can still use my pink/white with - was considering eggshell blue but not sure!?

Ours is pink, gold, purple, blue and green - it sounds mad, but basically it's inspired by some peacock feather baubles I was given and I promise it does work!

I do gold, copper and dark purple/ maroon with warm white lights in the back lounge, front lounge is red, gold, blue baubles with Santa on, ones the kids made, santas, snowmen, and multicoloured lights. Me and dd have secretly bought a fake tree (others are real because I love the smell and can't resist the £5 "reject trees" at the tree farm-I feel sorry for them!) and multicoloured lights for the garden too this year as everyone in our street seems to have outdoor lights and all we had was a light up reindeer on top of the bay window. I now need cheap baubles for it, but no idea what we'll get yet.

My Christmas trees are out of control and I need to reinforce myself in.

Main real tree in the living room has a roughly woodland theme. I've never done baubles but had lots of wood, felt and straw shapes instead. White lights and a troll at the top. Obviously creations from the dc will be lovely added also.

I have a new paper birch tree from JL for the dining room, which will be my steampunk tree. I have been collecting a variety of bits to decorate it with - old pocket watch, a cast of a bird skull, a bee made from cogs and a tiny scroll in a potion bottle to name a few. I am very excited to get it set up, it was my autumn project.

The dc have a little fake tree in their rooms which is mainly decorated with disney and some other felt decorations. They insist on tinsel.

Another new creation for this year, for our bedroom I have a twiggy tree with pompoms glued on and bits of brightly coloured wool wrapped around. It looks nicer than the description sounds.

Reinforce = rein

I think my autocorrect likes the Christmas trees.

Our taste probably much too plain - loads and loads of soft white lights, soft gold and plenty of plain but twinkly glass including decorations collected over the years and natural stuff - bits of oak and pine cones. Not a hint of tinsel in sight, no jarring shades. Natural and twinkly all the way.

This lovely thread is doing my Christmas tree addiction no good at all. I now want a copper themed tree (maybe the bathroom?)

For the last few years it's been 'brights', so lime green, bright pink, aqua, purple, etc so really classy and subtle. Grin This year though I've weeded out the lighter baubles and bought a few more pale ones, so will be going for pastels plus gold and silver. I can't deal with all over matching but like the hues to sort of tie together somehow.

And yes, I know how utterly wanky that sounds! Blush

My living room tree is themed, cream, pale gold, champagne, bronze and glass baubles/decorations, with bead garlands instead of tinsel and hundreds of warm white lights. I have had this theme for 20 odd years and it didnt always match the room decor as we have lived in three different houses with various colour schemes in each of those houses. By coincidence my living room now matches the tree!

I used to have the second tree in the dining room which was pastel colours, pink blue, green, lilac, white and silver, but changed the colour scheme when I moved it to the kitchen

That tree was red green and white (which matched the kitchen) with warm white lights but I decided I am going 80s vintage retro for this one this year I have bought a shitload of vintage and vintage style decs, in every colour you can imagine, coloured lights and as much as it pains me.......tinsel!!!!!

But can't wait to put it up.

Pre-DD I had a Victorian living room with quite a bit of red in it so we had a red, silver and gold theme - vintage baubles in red and silver mercury-style glass, plus a selection of copper, red, and red and metallic tree decorations that I'd picked up gradually over the years. It looked fab. I had a lot of glass candlesticks and glittery things as they went well with the older house. After DD, we've moved somewhere very modernist, and we've gone Scandi and have mostly red, natural and white wood, felt and paper decs as they are unbreakable and safe for toddlers! But one day I'll get my vintage glass ones out again

I also have some jewel-coloured ones I bought about 15 years ago in Accessorize - a mixture of mini coloured disco balls and cute glittery and embroidered animals. I hope that when DD is a bit older she might like them for a mini-tree. I haven't got her one yet as she's still a bit too young, but next year would probably be okay! Smile

Love reading this, its so odd that we all bring a tree into our house, but how wonderful and lovely, I think it was attehendofthedays post that made me think of this. Your trees sound brilliant.

Adorning a tree, how magical, its such a lovely thing to do.

Mine is also an oddment tree, but rough theme of the nutcracker, either turquoise blue with gold and colored ornaments or red and gold. Enchanted fairy wood with nutcracker ballet theme. I adore it, it gives me enourmous pleasure but its the bleeding lights I cant get right Angry I have three sets on it - due to the fact one it too bright, the others are too short.

I may bite bullet and see if I can get a 35 set from JL, much softer but perhaps slightly too orange. hate leds mood killers.

This year we will reach Tipping Point.

No bought decorations at all, no tree space. Apart from three gold papier cache baubles with teethmarks from when the kids were crawling and teething.

The tree is an utter shambles. Glittery crap, weird yogurt pot santas, very badly sewn robins, origami stars.

I laminated the crap they made at nursery. I have written their names and the year on each bit of tat.

It's revolting, really, it looks like someone's vomited Christmas, but, I love it. In fact, I keep the Box Of Decorations downstairs in the shoe cupboard incase of a fire. Fuck the passports, I need our scribbled snowmen.

My tree is better than yours.

I feel like the only one who decorates their tree the same every year. I'm using the same decorations I bought 14 years ago when I lived in Germany. Gold, red and cream with white lights. Can't afford to be buying new decorations every year. However, the boys now have a little tree in their room which is festooned in so much tasteless crap you can barely see the branches but makes them happy!

This year, I've bought a larger, more realistic looking artificial tree though so may need to buy more decorations too so it doesn't look bare.

marriednotdead · 25/11/2016 22:31

My tree doesn't change much but the quality of decorations has evolved over the years. It's mainly silver/mirror and a bit of white.
I still have some homemade ones from my first tree over 30 years ago.

Have been building a collection of glass baubles, one or two per year as they're a bit pricey but I happily admit it's my absolute pride and joy. Struggling to find anything I like better now though, seem to have reached peak options.

Mystified as to why you'd want your Christmas tree to "go" with your decor Confused

Lol tunnocks I love the sound of your tree!! I'm hoping in years to come I will have a tree like that Smile
My parents still top theirs with a 22 year old angel made from lolly pop sticks my sister created in play school Grin

Last year we had red, silver and white decorations. This year I fancy some gold so we will do red, gold and white. It's not matchy but everything does co ordinate.

Red, white, green and gold. We do have various sentimental decorations too so some other colours.

No, you're not the only one sugar.

We have bought a new ornament each year. The children used to love to chose one so we have quite a variety. I prefer cream / white lights but we have had coloured( DH) too. No tinsel now as there are so many including glass and gold ones from Past Times. Several from the children. Everyone that comes in comments on what a pretty tree it is. No themes here but it seems to work.
In the dining room we have twigs with white lights and silver and glass ornaments. This is a recent edition because we changed the room.

We used to have a tasteful, matching theme pre-dc but as we only have space for one tree it has to be bright and colourful! I can't imagine not having the Santas and snowmen and candy canes that my son loves. I figure we'll have years of tasteful trees ahead of us when he's grown up so for now we embrace the gaudy, multi coloured, tinselled chaos!

My theme is 'glittery shit'. That way, kids homemade decorations tie in beautifully with the occasional John Lewis bauble! And the tinsel vaguely goes, somehow. Ish.

No theme here, they look nice in shop windows but not cosy and homely enough for me. Lots of multicoloured lights (I hate white ones) and lots of multi coloured baubles and other hanging decorations collected over 20 years. The DCs buy a new one each year each.

Only space for one tree here and, like a previous poster, there are complaints if I try and theme it. Everything goes on it, including cotton wool snowmen. I like it though! I might try a more tasteful decoration in the hall this year.
