Hi,

I'm new to the site, so apologies if this has been asked.

My wife is just about to give birth to our first child, and I'd like to know what a new Mum would appreciate for Christmas? We have a cleaner and I've made food for the freezer which will last until about February, so I'd like something for her, (she's not really into shopping). As I have no idea what she will feel like, if she's only given birth a month ago I thought I'd ask the experts.

Any help apprciated
Thanks

Hermes silk scarf
Something fun from Vivienne Westwood
Apple watch
Anything cashmere eg cardigan, gloves

"Sign" the card from Baby with a hand print or foot print, use watercolour paint.

A really nice decoration for the tree, something like this

A nice ceramic insulated travel mug with silicone lid, or a kleen kanteen insulated cup, so she can have hot drinks without worrying about spilling on babies head while feeding or baby knocking them over, the ceramic ones are nicer to drink out of and cheaper and have nice prints, but the kleen kanteen type keep the drink hotter for longer. I like the Kew garden print ones, my partner has bought me them from Amazon.

A family friendly weekend away, don't book anything like theatre tickets or spa breaks as she will likely just be anxious about leaving the baby, particularly if planning to breastfeed.

A kindle is a good idea if she doesn't have one. I couldn't hold a book when feeding as I need one hand to keep baby latched on.

A family photo shoot or a breastfeeding photo shoot? The latter can be really nice and more for her than a family gift.

Personalised family Christmas decoration with all your names on. Can get that kind of thing on Not On the High Street or Etsy.

You can get jewelry kits that you send off with a hand and footprint of the baby and they make it into a necklace. Just google hand and footprint necklace.

An iou with a promise to look after your lovely new addition for a whole day or two half days was the present I most appreciated. It meant I could see friends. And even if it was doesn't at home, given Brest feeding, it meant I didn't have to worry about anything else.

Well done for coming on here and congrats, good luck and hope all goes well.

A newborn photo shoot is a good idea too, as is a hamper of food she couldn't eat during pregnancy, her favourite alcoholic tipple ( you can have the occasional glass if you time it right with breasfeeding), voucher for a facial or massage, clothes voucher as her size may have changed and she'll be inbetween maternity and her normal clothes, a nice attractive baby sling- the material ones come in lovely colours that go with different outfits so she can have her hands free when carrying the baby if she like, Some new makeup or nice body creams? These are some ideas I would think are nice and I am due to have a baby in 9 days

Pedicures and manicures are nice ... you will know if her lack of girlyness would make this idea useless. If she likes art is there anything that you could buy to symbolise the mother and baby bond - a figurine or sculpture?

All my suggestions have been covered already but I think you sound lovely! Congratulations to you all.

(realises this is a very un-mumsnetty thing to say but he does Grin )

We stayed here: www.theelmshotel.co.uk/. It's Worcestershire, so not quite your location, but we travelled from Newcastle and it was worth it.

It's a luxury hotel but entirely targeted towards families. We went with an 11 month old and a pre schooler. There's a spa where you can get treatments. They have qualified nursery staff running childcare. They do family friendly meal times or offer babysitting if you want an adult meal and feel confident leaving your child.

We couldn't have been happier. Worth a look?
