What's the best family game for a 5 & 9 year old

Im wanting a new board game for us to play on Christmas day & beyond. Dc are 9 & 5. Game also needs to be suitable for adults. I've been looking at labyrinth & family trivial pursuit. But Im not sure they will be suitable for a 5 year old. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Not a board game exactly because we haven't had success with those, but my 5 & 8 like Uno which is also good for adults. 5 sometimes needs a bit of a nudge but he's getting there.

Plyt- you can all play at your own level and keep changing it to keep it interesting.

I take it you have Jnr Monopoly and the other standards? Frustration?

My 5 year old enjoys snakes and ladders. Not a board game but Jenga is a great family game.

Junior scrabble if the 5 yo is up to it. Or junior pictionary. Or charades ( not a board game but you can get the pack of charades cards which have a picture on instead of the word so good for early readers).

The object of the game is to describe the word on the card without saying certain words. We bought it years ago at Xmas and still play it.

Or similar, Yes/No - the object of that is... To not say yes or no!

My 4 year old is a dab hand at proper grown up Carcassone.

Just played both jenga and snakes and ladders with my two today (6 and 8) - their choice and we lasted an hour and they're usually the fiddly can't sit down types. Some of the Lego board games are meant to be good although some are more difficult than others.

Another one for Dobble. We all play, even dd who will be 4 next week. It gets quite competitive though!

When we play more complicated board games (Cluedo, Risk etc), the 5-yr-old is teamed with one of the adults so she feels part of the game without feeling frustrated or inadequate.

Another vote for Carcassone. 5 year old prefers the junior version.

Labyrinth is awesome for that age group (mine are 5 and 7), my 5yo loves it, there's suggestions on how to change the rules to make it a bit easier for them. Have bought dobble too and eyeing up sushi go for this year.

We have the HABA Animal Upon Animal Balancing Bridge which my two like.

My 2 are 5&8. They can play Dobble for hours, even with their 16 year old cousin. It's a great cross-generational game. My little can keep up.

We're big fans of City of Zombies :) I think there are ways to make it a little harder for the adults/9 year old, but it's maths basically, so you can be as complex or simple as you wish.

Fluxx board game is good (we got it after our boys enjoyed the Fluxx card game so much). My boys also enjoy Labyrinth. If anything like mine, they may well enjoy a cooperative game like Forbidden Island, where you're all on the same team so you can help/ advise the younger one if (s)he is unsure.

My 5 and 9 year old love a card game called love letter. It's simple, but really fun and we often play it once they're in bed!

If it's ok to ask:

Dobble fans is it worth buying the junior version? It looks awfully similar to the standard version.
