Christmas clearout/declutter

Hi everyone

So my house although clean is very cluttered and disorganised I just have too much stuff and no matter how hard I try I never seem to make any progress.

Now that Christmas is fast approaching I really want space to enjoy the Christmas period and with all the room that is going to be needed for gifts/decorations and the extra bodies in the house.

Does anyone else do this? And if so how do you manage it? What do you get rid of?

I have 3 dcs ds3 dd2 and dd10 months. I live in a 3 bed house with 1 storage cupboard under the stairs so not really anywhere to put stuff. I also have a sentimental husband who won't get rid of ANYTHING.

thanks all.

I'm doing this now! I've bought an over the door shoe storage thing to keep cleaning products in the cupboard under the stairs so gained an extra kitchen cupboard, and taken old toys and clothes to the 50p/kg shop- used the £30 for new decorations! Moved some shelves into the under stairs cupboard too to maximise storage space, and am buying under bed storage boxes. Following for more ideas....

I'd like to say I did it in October to fit in with a carefully timed and organised Christmas countdown but that us unfortunately not the case. I think I'd probably just caught up on myself after the summer holidays. I will definitely do it in October next year though.
I am in awe of all of you doing entire rooms at a time. I would love to have the time and energy. I tend to do it in short bursts eg I will find 10 things to take to the charity shop on my way to work tomorrow, wherever they are in the house. Or have a bath and use 5 pampering products at once. That's de-cluttering at its best.

Time consuming it is and very exhausting but the rewards are great.

I have had to speed mine up a bit due to a house inspection tomorrow at 2 so I have just had to tidy a few bits other than declutter so that it looks perfect for my over picky landlady.

Oh I love your idea of using all the luxury bathroom products at once definitely decluttering!

I need help to motivate myself to get the house ready for Christmas. I want to put the tree up on the 27th and would love to have all down stairs sorted by then and then I can get upstairs sorted after that. Any tips for clearing it up when dh and dd mess it up again.

Motivation is hard to come by sometimes today is a particularly bad day for me but luckily I am nearly finished.

I have no tips as to how to keep it tidy with a dh and dd messing it up other than move out!

But in all seriousness I have a dh and 3 dcs and keeping on top of it is a full time job on its own. I have found that getting rid of a lot of stuff is the easiest way as less stuff less mess less to clean. Just try to be ruthless. Make a clrleaning rota? How old is your ddaughter?

Dd is 4 dh is 34 both act like 4 year olds lol.

It's mad though isn't it.....getting rid of stuff so we have room for more stuff.....and this time next year we'll no doubt be getting rid of the stuff we've bought this year!

soontobe well having twin 4 year olds must be a challenge Wink

joolsy yes that is so true isn't it sounds quite sad when you put it that way. When children arenjoy as young as mine they do grow out of toys quite quickly and then I take the old stuff to charity shops so hopefully someone else will get use out of it.

Does anyone know any pretty storage for a hallway and living room?
