Hi everyone. DP has asked me to choose a toiletries gift set as a Christmas present for his sister. I do not know her very well but would say Bath and body rather than face/make up. Not sure what scent she likes either so would need to keep it subtle. I would really appreciate any suggestions. Free to spend about £30.

I really dislike receiving toiletries! As do most women I know.

Could you or DH check her preferred brands with her partner?

perditalost · 12/11/2016 08:36

None. They are all overpriced crap

If he want to get a rubbish gift then tell him to do it himself. Otherwise get her something decent.

As nice as the body shop ones are, and generally quite expensive, I find body shop ones to be cheesy & tacky for some reason! The straw hay for decoration in boxed gifts etc...I just find it to be tacky. Not sure why. Any one else get that feeling?? I bought my friend one years ago from there and she confessed to never have used it, it is still in all the packaging. I find them kind of presents quite thoughtless tbh. Don't know why tho lol. HOWEVER..Soap & Glory as mentioned here is brilliant, has a retro touch and is in with the times. I got a massive Soap & Glory boxed set last year & I loved it! Boots normally have good offers on that at Christmas time too, so I will be keeping an eye out coz I never use my saved advantage card points to buy for Christmas presents honest! Not too keen on Baylis & Harding either, it tries to be luxury but I get the same feeling towards that as I do with the body shop gift sets. Maybe I'm just weird?! Grin

I would hate to get a gift set from Boots. I just think it shows lack of imagination and thought.

SheldonCRules · 12/11/2016 08:54

If you don't know the brands she likes I would steer clear, I'd not use most of the ones listed on here so they would go to waste.

Is there no way of finding out what she likes?

If no, go for one small item and then make up the rest with a Boots voucher so you don't waste your money.

Loccitaine is lovely. John Lewis have nice toiletries usually.

JaneAustinAllegro · 12/11/2016 09:34

A large bottle of the Nuxe dry oil rather than a box of stuff

What about going the scented candle route rather than dreaded gift set.

Clarins do the most heavenly foam bath. Blue and smells gorgeous it's about 16.00 but last a long time and is very indulgent

BrianMolkoismyPlacebo · 12/11/2016 10:37

I would like something that I can't justify buying myself like a really nice neils yard or clinique facecream.

HmmmmBop oooh, when does boots usually do half price sets? Someone I know has asked for a Sanctuary Spa set (like a lot of you, I didn't really believe that people actually lusted after these sets, but there you go). It'd be great to get her one of the bigger ones but I feel a bit robbed paying full price when it's in 3-for-2, because there literally isn't anything else I want in the deal.

L'occitaine is lovely. I noticed that Debenhams had a lovely l'occitaine set of their minis (hand creams and bath/body stuff) a few days ago which was on offer at £25 from £50. It was quite a large set so looked like a nice gift!

Blue2014 · 12/11/2016 10:59

For the record - I love these gifts sets. They often feel like a treat I would never indulge myself in

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 12/11/2016 14:50

Thank you all for your recomendations, lots to check out now.I think I will go for small but naice.
Some lovely things mentioned on here, I think I will be shopping for myself as well. Sil has no partner so cannot find out any more. I do know she likes baths so will look for subtle fragrance. Thank you all for the replies, hopefully it might help others too.

Rituals, loccitane or ted baker set (hopefully the large bath and body will be a star gift in boots). I like soap and glory but i dont like the sets, too much body butter and creams for me.
