I want to buy one for mil. Which should I go for? She likes lattes and cappuccinos.

Hello, this thread is a little old and some of the recommendations might be out of date. If you’re looking for up-to-date advice on the best coffee machine money can buy, take a look at our round-up of Mumsnetters’ favourites. MNHQ.

OP thanks for thread.

I have been toying with the idea of treating myself to a "pod" like machine. Have birthday money to use but keep telling myself I don't need it (like I didn't need a Kitchen Aid but I eventually crumbled !).

I am pretty much the only person in our house who drinks coffee & for convenience when at home I use instant but when out I love latte & cappachino.

So I would like a machine that does latte & cappachino & if possible would do a great espresso (DH loves these if we go abroad where he says they are proper coffees - eg very very strong & grouty - ugh).

Other definites - one which is easy to use, doesn't take up too much space on the worktop & does not need a separate frother (sounds more hassle or do I need to get better coffee ?) AND is easy to clean - even better if parts can go straight into dishwasher. Cost - if possible under £150.

So far reading earlier posts quickly whilst on train commute I am liking the sound of the Lavazza one or the Nespresso but all recommendations considered !
Thanks if you got this far !!!

Shamefully, I have two Nespresso machines. I prefer the taste to any other coffee. We have a U in the kitchen and a Pixie in the bedroom. I've got the frother too. Nespresso send recycling bags with order of pods and collect the old pods if you request it. I have never found a supermarket pod that tastes as good though and I don't think there is any saving as I've seen 10 for £3.99 in Sainsburys but the pods are 31p each on the Nespresso site with free delivery if you buy a lot at a time.

Bealola if you want a machine that does latte / cappuccino you can get a tassimo or dolce gusto where you put a coffee pod in, then a milk pod in and it will make your drink. The problem with this is that the pods use powdered UHT milk so they won't taste like the coffee you get in Costa etc. Some people like them, personally I prefer a cappuccino made with fresh milk.
The nespresso pods just do the coffee bit, some come with a milk frother or you can buy a milk frother separately, these will make a much better cappuccino or latte but it's slightly more faff.

The dolce gusto doesnt have that odd synthetic taste that the tassimo has.

I've had a Tassimo and a Dolce Gusto and much prefer the taste of the coffee from the Dolce Gusto

We're not coffee drinkers but want to buy for pils. They usually drink Kenco and Dow Egberts, which would be the most compatible set up?
