70s dinner party hamper

Epictantrum · 31/10/2016 21:30

Hi,
I have a hard to buy for couple, and was thinking of the new book "70s dinner party" with a hamper of 70s food.
So far I am thinking Mateus rose, cinzano, angel delight, brandysnaps, maybe a vol au vent cutter. Any other ideas for non perishable 70s items still available today?
Thanks. Feel free to steal my really odd idea (desperate, moi?)

Sainsburys had some mahoosive cans of beer last week that reminded me of party seven, I did wonder if there was some kind of 70s gastronomic revival going on. I would love a 70s hamper!

Ready-made fondue in a packet. Had this once when some friends and I had a 70s-themed dinner party, when we were students!

We had vodka and lime with prawn and avocado cocktail to start, then fondue with liebfraumilch and black forest gateau to finish. Lovely, but I did feel bit sick after the fondue.

Helpisathand13 · 01/11/2016 01:58

Sounds a fab idea, lots of items already mentioned I can think of a few others:
Tinned mandarin segments,pears,peaches
Evaporated milk
Tinned fruit cocktail
Angel delight
Tiny boxes of crosse and Blackwell soup
Super mousse
Artic roll
Shiphams paste in a jar
Lots of sweets, like refreshers, cherry lips, Parma violets, flying saucers, sherbert dabs(maybe fill a jar of retro treats and add to hamper?!)
Enjoy creating the hamper and I am sure it will be a fantastic gift.

This thread has reminded me of a game my big sister and I used to play when the new seasons catalogues came out. There were always several Christmas Hampers in there which contained many of the items mentioned on this thread (it was Ye Olde Oak tinned ham that sparked the memory.) For each hamper there would be a detailed list of contents and an accompanying photograph which always contained every item in the hamper. And I mean every item - if it said two Chivers jellies there would be two in there somewhere.

Anyway the game was to read each item in the list and then see who could be the first one to find it in the photograph. I know, I know but they were simpler times and you had to make your own pleasures etc.

Brilliant idea for a present BTW

Thanks all, I have added loads of your ideas to my Ocado shop (but will have to hit Tesco for some of the less naice products!)
