HATCHIMAL - Should I bother in this case?

DD2 is 7 .

We have a "rule" where we buy everything on the DC Father Christmas lists (they're only allowed to ask for 5 things).

Dd2 has today added a Hatchimal to her list . Specifically a pink one .

Obviously there is no stock anywhere. They are silly prices on EBay (disgusting in itself ! Angry ) .

We've told DD you have to be 8 to own a Hatchimal Blush .

She said she won't be too disappointed if she doesn't get one for Christmas as she's not 8 !

She would be disappointed if she didn't get the Lego friends camper on her list .

I'm tempted to not bother with the Hatchimal but feel a bit bad as it Is on her list and I lied about the age she says she would like one. Confused

They don't look worth the money and her old furby was shelved on Boxing Day Hmm

Her birthday is at the end of January so if she still wants one I'll happily oblige then when there's likely to be stock .

Opinions please - yes or no?

Do you buy most things your DC want?

Harrods had them on Saturday

2014newme · 27/10/2016 14:38

But they looked not great

We put one back

It's worth phoning ToysRUs and Smyths regularly (if you are desperate for a hatchimal) as you may get lucky with a delivery. We did this on tuesday and they had got a delivery of Hatchimals that morning - only the Owlicorn ones, but luckily DD wasn't fussy about which hatchimal she wanted, so we were able to grab one. I would definitely say ToysRUs and Smyths are your best bet as their websites say these toys may be available in store but not for delivery. I was in Smyths maidstone this morning and saw a man buy a hatchimal.

StrawberrytallCake · 27/10/2016 16:35

I called ToysRUs yesterday and the lady on the phone told me their next delivery date, but couldn't promise hatchimals...so also worth asking delivery date and time and then hanging around a couple of hours later.

I preordered in smyths and then managed to pick one up so returned the pre order one today. I think there will be be a good bit of stock in the next few weeks.
I know what it's like to desperately search for something your children have asked for so I try my best not to disappoint. But I only let them ask for 3 things.

BrollySmolly · 27/10/2016 17:10

Totally didn't get mishaps post either. Please explain!

Onlytimewilltell · 27/10/2016 17:15

My 8 year old has one on her list, and I've told her there is no way she will be getting one since the furby she pestered for last year barely leaves his box, poor thing.
She said santa will get her one, and I said he's not impressed she hasn't played with the furby so no he won't.
I think you may have to change your story as I'm sure she will find out her friends have them. Just be frank like me and refuse to buy the overpriced rubbish.

BrollySmolly · 27/10/2016 17:17

My dc write lists (a page long sometimes Hmm), but they know Father Christmas will choose things off the list.

They do usually get more than 5 things though - is that a bad thing?!

ProfessorBranestawm · 27/10/2016 22:34

I wouldn't but I think if the expectation is there that all 5 things are given, then yes she will be disappointed.

They do look pretty shit though TBH, just a new type of furby

RumAppleGinger · 27/10/2016 22:40

If you are on Facebook there is a page called Play Pennies that has advertised a few times when shops have them in stock and where they are available to pre-order them.

19Hannah · 27/10/2016 23:02

For the hatchimal, try phoning Tesco (or anywhere that stocks them) and asking when they're likely to have more stock, and keep refreshing the page online around midnight.. I got one this way, although 7 minutes later they were sold out again so be quick!

What is recommended age for a hatchimal My dd is mentioning about them, she had a furby a few years ago, but she broke, and dd was very upset, dd is 8, nearly 9

2014newme · 28/10/2016 18:40

They are not interactive like a furry. Once hatched they are like a little live pet.

2014newme · 28/10/2016 18:41

By which i mean the little live pet range of toys, not an actual pet!
