Twig tree-yay or nay?

I'm having a (nice) problem wondering where in earth were going to squeeze in a Christmas tree this year. It'll probably involve having to put a sofa in the garage which seems completely ridiculous considering the numbers of people who are likely to visit over Christmas and need somewhere to sit! We're in a badly designed rented house and just fitting normal furniture in has been a nightmare. I saw the twig trees on display in John Lewis yesterday and I was surprised to really quite like how they look, and they'd certainly be easier to fit in. But, they're just not a Christmas tree are they? I guess for a super stylish minimalist couple they'd be great, but for a family with three children they'd strike me as being a bit bare? Does anyone else have to do some serious furniture rearranging to fit in an tree?

I quite like the twig trees, but not for a main family tree - my DC love the decorating part and we have lots of homemade decorations they've made over the years, plus one new bauble we buy together each year.

Do you have a fireplace, maybe you could decorate that instead with a bower (sp?) of branches with lights and decorations on etc?

Do you normally have a floor standing artificial tree? Could you either fold up the branches on one side if they are hinged, or simply leave the back branches off if they come off and stand it against the wall as a half tree? It wouldn't stick out as far. You can buy half trees! But using an existing one would be a lot cheaper.

We had a similair dilemna a few years ago in our first house and managed to buy a slimline tree from Next. Not sure if that would suit but its basically a christmas tree but tall and skinny

I've had a tall and skinny tree in my tiny old house. You could hug it. It was fab.
