I've bought things like cranberry sauce, bread sauce, some extra bottles of soft drinks, two huge chocolate panettones(!) etc

Just looking for more ideas of things to buy this far in advance!

Nothing, because we can't be trusted not to eat it all early Blush

But I will be getting my Christmas pudding ingredients this coming week. We don't host and often travel a lot so don't really need to buy masses. Doesn't stop us buying and eating all the nice party nibbles of course!

ShatnersBassoon · 23/10/2016 19:02

One bag of snowman Pombears.

PlumsGalore · 23/10/2016 19:07

I stopped doing this a few years ago. I now buy enough for the three days of xmas and have it delivered on the 23rd. Anything above this is wasteful and just means greed and weight gain. I often used to eat them in November and December then rebuy.

pippitysqueakity · 23/10/2016 19:18

Well, that's us told Plums.

TheImprobableGirl · 23/10/2016 19:39

I started months ago! A bottle of Cava every couple of weeks with the shop; M&S shortbread tin when it was half price; stollen; stuffing; cranberry sauce; biscuits; Christmas biscuits; Bailey's; port... This week I'll buy a Christmas cake and some champagne.

In yer face, Plums Xmas Grin

BiddyPop · 24/10/2016 10:23

Ah Plums - it all depends on your mentality, what you are stashing, and your ability to actually get a supermarket delivery organized for the right time and place. But if you have no self control dear....tilts head understandingly

Meanwhile - as we are travelling on 23rd, and the place we're staying has no delivery service (I've checked) and I don't yet know the timetable of when we are expected in other houses (which is probably all hours except the 3 we need for sleep!), I cannot even organize a "click and collect" slot, so they'll be all gone by the time I know what I can do.

So, in order to ensure that DD has a birthday party on 26th, and that the GF person can enjoy it too, and I don't lose my reason even more than I expect to, I am buying ahead. I also bought Halloween sweets quite some weeks ago, and they are all still there. DD spotted, but hasn't touched, the Advent calendar chocolate snowmen that DH decided he'd put in the main cupboard in full sight.

If we know they are there for a reason, and particularly if they are put away in a place other than the normal food cupboards that are a free for all, then almost inevitably we will still have them come Christmas.

And Christmas itself is sooooo busy in our household that the less I need to get to a supermarket, the better. And I generally cannot plan ahead on being at home for deliveries until the day before - which is way too late to get a slot.

BiddyPop · 24/10/2016 10:27

(Should I mention that, as we didn't have a chance for a quiet few days around the fire slobbing out last year, I still have my port, desert wine and a good handful of amaretti biscuits to enjoy?!)

Garyfetacheese · 24/10/2016 15:55

I just bought a gin tasting set for myself for Christmas, does that count?

torthecatlady · 24/10/2016 17:15

Gary, Yes it does!

hels71 · 24/10/2016 17:38

a gin tasting set? tell me more....

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 24/10/2016 20:23

I have a Heston for Waitrose Christmas Pudding from two years ago.
Does it count?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 25/10/2016 04:19

Me too Chardonnay! It's being cooked this year whether any one wants it or not!

Went to Lidl the other day and couldn't resist a bar of chocolate coated marzipan and some stollen bites. No idea what they taste like given the price but worth a try?!!!

MrsDilligaf · 25/10/2016 04:44

Gary

I might get a couple of those - they look fab and I might accidentally drink one

NotMyMoney · 25/10/2016 14:21

Garyfetacheese perfect little gift for my DM birthday in December and if she likes it I'll get it for he for when she is here for Christmas.

I start stock piling Christmas foods after Halloween, we host every year and may be hosting an extra 5 family members from the 22nd till the 3rd Halloween Shock. I have one rule around Christmas no one gets waited upon and everyone has a list of house work to do. I find it works well and the more the merrier

2014newme · 25/10/2016 14:24

Nothing. I can't see the point. We don't have room to store it. We do save money though.

Sleepybunny · 25/10/2016 14:31

Place marking!

I like to stock up on alcohol, it can be expensive when entertaining people over the festive period. A couple of bottles here and there with the weekly shop makes things easier.
im trying to avoid buying too much junk foods, but rather stocking up on ingredients for nice meals/canapés.

OpheIiaBaIIs · 26/10/2016 21:42

2014 I like to stock up in advance so I can take advantage of special offers - for example the 25% off six bottles of wine offers for the cava, and the various other offers supermarkets have on in the run-up. Also it's much easier to spend a few quid a week rather than hundreds in one go a few days before Christmas - I can't imagine anything worse than negotiating Tesco with an overflowing trolley on Dec 23rd, then having to lug the whole lot home Xmas Grin

AdoraBell · 26/10/2016 22:31

DH bought chocolates 2 weeks ago. They are under my desk to avoid raiding by teens. This is torture for me.

Jarred items bought this week and GF biscuits and Christmas pudding ordered for next week. I still need to get ground almonds for my alternative pudding, Nigella's GF brownies.

We don't live near an M&S so I'm in search of other naice crisps.

griffinsss · 26/10/2016 22:47

Recently returned from a trip to Belgium with quite a few chocolates Grin. Doubt they'll last until December, but that's the plan.

We've also started stockpiling alcohol.

Nothing else yet.

jj21 · 27/10/2016 00:37

We've got chocolates (including lots for presents), alcohol, tins of soft drinks, biscuits, and various packets/jars so far. I have a list of all the non-perishables we will need/would like over the holidays (which includes 3 family birthdays as well as Christmas and New Year) and check for offers on all these whenever I shop. I try to buy some each week as the offers come up to spread the cost. Have also cleared a drawer in the freezer for offers on large joints of meat as I find this a good option when entertaining - last year we had several 2-3 kilo joints in the freezer, bought at half price per kilo, and I did one for each birthday, which worked really well (some were part of a roast dinner and some were cold as part of a buffet). Everyone in our house knows that they will die a horrible death if they touch anything put aside for the holidays, but I have had to start hiding some bits from my DF who has early dementia and forgets that they are not for now (or even his) if he finds them.

YouCanDoThis · 27/10/2016 01:46

I have dairy free advent calendar, selection box and chocolate coins as they sell out quickly. Anything else I would probably eat. We are buying and using the Tesco chocolate churros from the party section but only because they are dairy free and delicious!
