Is there a reason you have to be alone? You couldn't invite, eg, some foreign students who aren't going home round for lunch?

PotteringAlong · 09/09/2016 17:57

Buy your absolute favourite foods.

Christmas films.

Or, if you don't want to be alone, there will be good kitchens etc looking for volunteers

Xenadog · 09/09/2016 17:58

Do some volunteering at a homeless shelter. You can usually do several shifts over the festive period. I have and had really good times.

I'd also see about getting some nice food in, good DVDs to watch and books to read. You don't have to spend much and if you start now you can save up a few pounds a week which will be a decent sum by December 25th.

Also, look what's on in your area. Christmas service at church / local cathedral? Christmas Eve stuff in local places?

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 09/09/2016 18:04

Sunny I don't know anybody around here yet, although that could always change Grin

Good idea about the food

Will also look into homeless shelters :)

If I had a Christmas alone, I would make sure I had my favourite food for lunch as well as yummy nibbles for over the Christmas period, like pork pie, nice cheeses etc. Might go to a carol service because I love Christmas carols (perhaps on Christmas eve) and spend the day in super comfy clothes, watching whatever I wanted on TV/ catch up. Or I might pop round and visit some elderly people who live nearby and might be lonely, take them some Christmas cake or something.

whistlingtea · 09/09/2016 18:13

Guys, homeless places and so on are full to bursting with volunteers at Christmas, signing up now would help you out Christmas 2017!

SweetChickadee · 09/09/2016 18:17

Have you just started Uni? You might have a whole gang of mates by Christmas.

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 09/09/2016 18:18

Sweet I have crippling social anxiety so that probably won't happen, but you never know!

Are there any student notice boards?

You could do a come down with me invite?

Swap Christmas Eve with Boxing Day?

Plenty of student parties and you don't have to drink

WhatsGoingOnEh · 09/09/2016 18:22

I had a Christmas totally alone a few years ago. Kids at their Dad's, my family all ill with suspected swine flu, BF with his kids.

It wasn't that bad! Except I ended up getting drunk on my very boozy homemade Christmas cake that I fell over and gave myself a nosebleed!

The tv on Christmas Day is fab. You'll be fine. :)

Bumpmadethemjump · 09/09/2016 18:22

Can't you visit any familySad?

CwtchMeQuick · 09/09/2016 18:22

If I were alone at Christmas I'd get up early and drive to the beach for a walk, then come home and watch Christmas films with a few tins of chocolates. Enjoy!

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 09/09/2016 18:23

Bump None to speak of, sadly..

I'm not religious but I'd be tempted to go to church, there's always a big welcome there.

Then, onto somewhere to volunteer, old peoples home, play cards with the oldies or just listen to them. After that, home for favourite foods in pj's with cheesy movies.

But... You may well have made some good friends by then

clippityclop · 09/09/2016 18:24

If you're new at Uni give it time, you may find friends in a similar situation. In the meantime save up for your favourite food etc and look out for local events to get involved in .

CodyKing come 'down' with me could bring an interesting twist to Xmas Confused

SweetChickadee · 09/09/2016 18:29

Ah, I see AverageGayLad. That must be difficult in new situations.. Fingers crossed you find some nice new pals.

We emigrated years ago and have had a few Orphans Christmases where we invited friends and colleagues with no family to go to - it was really fun.

I've voluntarily had several Christmases alone. It was great!

So first off, change your mindset into one of choosing to do it this way!

And then plan a lovely meal, tv guide, walk, whatever you want and start looking forward to it!

I have made full on roast meals with 2 choices of meat before, plus all the trimmings. I was enjoying leftovers for days!

Happy Christmas!

whistlingtea · 09/09/2016 18:35

Oh please don't call them that Sad

CodyKing · 09/09/2016 18:35

What's your favourite meal. Picky bits, cheeses & crackers, cold meats / Pates?

Do you like cooking?

TommyandGina · 09/09/2016 18:40

Order a meal from a local pub on Xmas eve and re-heat if you're not a keen cook
