I'm looking for ideas for gifts. What gifts do you love getting? It can be anything! Practical, luxurious, simple. I have a mixed bag of people to buy for so interested to see what other people like!

Chocolate Marzipan
Nice bubbly bath
Earrings

Usually I order my presents from QVC or Amazon, or DH sometimes sees things I like. He buys me some really good trashy books too .

Nice jumpers (I'm coverting some Woollovers ones)

I love gift sets and scented candles. Lovely notebooks, wine, chocolates.

MollHackabout · 09/09/2016 07:41

Books (history or classics, especially beautiful editions)
A Kindle Oasis (I can dream)
A Mulberry purse to go in the Mulberry bag I got for my birthday
Good Scotch
Pearl earrings
Sheepskin slippers
Hotel Chocolat Chicago
A beautiful diary (Paperblanks or similar)
A craft beer hamper

I can usually find some beauty in any sincerely given gift Totally agree with this, though.

FannyHill · 09/09/2016 07:43

Hotel Chocolat CHOCOLATES, not Chicago! Grin

MollHackabout · 09/09/2016 07:44

Aaand a NC fail just to add to the autocorrect woes Grin

My birthday is in early December so I'd really love a She-Ra Christmas jumper that I could wear forevermore when we take DS to see Santa.

Theatre vouchers, or a trip away or both.

0pti0na1 · 09/09/2016 10:52

I'd like:

Gadgets/technology (second hand is fine)
Nice quality coffee/tea
Useful household stuff (not everyone likes this but I'm happy to receive tea towels, pillows, hoover bags, water glasses, pegs... especially if nicer than what I'd usually buy)
Jewellery
Bulbs or plants
Chocolate
Magazine subscription
Art/craft stuff
Tickets to an event or show

Not keen:

Toiletries
Things you have to display at home (candle holders, ornaments, photo frames, pictures)
Alcohol (not much of a drinker)
Vouchers where you have to spend ages shopping to choose your own present which the voucher-giver will approve of
Slogan mugs
Scratchy wool scarf/hat/gloves
Diary (I have my favourite kind and stick to it)

ppandj · 09/09/2016 12:04

Thanks again! If you have a specific hobby, do you prefer vouchers for a shop you can buy related stuff from? Or would you appreciate the thought of someone trying to get something related but with the risk of it not being quite right?

BIL is into tattoos and a specific type of illustration but I have no idea where to look for niche stuff like that.

Ooh have a look on Pinterest, the whole of everything ever is on there! ( for tattoo ideas)
And good luck with the gift giving can I be your friend just for Christmas

thesnailandthewhale · 11/09/2016 21:15

A more luxurious / expensive version of what I would normally buy myself -
eg:

a cashmere scarf / gloves
Moleskin notebook
Perfume
Sheepskin slippers
Nice chocolates
Biographies
A family calendar
Yankee candles / decent reed diffusers
Nice stationery bits from paperchase
Soap and glory big giftset
A new bath pillow
Fluffy socks
Vouchers for massage
Nice chutney

I'm another one who is happy to have household items, again as long as they are lovely rather than basic, eg. soft thick towels.

Please don't get me any of the following:

Bayliss & Harding stuff
Milk Tray / Dairy Box
Alcohol (rarely drink)
Jewellery (have loads, rarely wear it)
Novelty anything
Dvds (have Sky)

MalbecAndLindt · 11/09/2016 21:24

Nice chocolates
A good bottle of wine
PJs/slippers
My mum normally buys me some items of clothing
My Nan always gets me a bottle of whiskey
My partner has got me Clogau necklace and the matching bracelet for the last Christmas/birthday

Currently pregnant and due in Feb so no point in clothes/PJs, etc.

This year, things I'd really appreciate: spa treatment (already asked DP), a jewellery box from parents, nice chocolates, vouchers so I can treat myself to some nice clothes after birth...can't think of much else. Oh and a lovely bottle of wine (my dad is a good selector) to celebrate after baby is born Grin

iklboo · 11/09/2016 21:30

DH is contemplating buying me a miniature copper still so I can make my own gin. And a gin masterclass trip. I'm sensing a theme.

dancingsnowfairy · 11/09/2016 23:01

Yes, luxurious versions of quite simple things here too.
Fluffy / Woolley socks
Decent wine
Chocolate Brazil's
Pearl earrings
Throw
Book
Notebook
Tea bags
Beautiful, quite simple plate or mug - not novelty or with slogans, quite earthy - have been falling in love with lots on pinterest

I love crafting and would be equally excited by a voucher or something thoughtfully chosen

I always have a magazine subscription from my in laws, which I love and am very grateful for.

SlinkyVagabond · 11/09/2016 23:16

I want this thing I've seen in my local wool shop, it's like a wooden spike on a base that rotates, you stick your wool on it and it unravells nicely. Three years I've been asking for one.
I like good silver jewellry, my ultimate would be a bit of georg Jensen, good perfume (that I have hinted abiut all year) and nice soaps. I've always lusted after a liberty scarf in green Hera print.

Soupandasandwich · 11/09/2016 23:43

these are divine. Smell of Christmas. I'd love any of them. I also love good, dark chocolate. Happy with toiletries, but would like something a step up from Body Shop. Amazon voucher for my Kindle. I like jewellery but like to choose my own - not necessarily expensive, but I like slightly unusual creations in silver/white gold. Gift vouchers or cash that I can put towards craft supplies and equipment. I love gadgets, so anything 'new'.

I am at an age where I'd rather someone gave me £5 or even nothing, rather than something really extravagant that I won't /cant use. I've had enough of people presuming to know what I need and then getting huffy when it turns out that actually I don't need the object concerned. Xmas Confused

Likes:

  • Any luxury version of an every day item ie something I need on a daily/weekly basis but a nicer version of iyswim.
  • Chocolate
  • Fluffy socks
  • PJs
  • Nice bubble bath/bath oils
  • No7 make up
  • Yankee candles
  • Generally things that smell nice or keep me cosy

Not keen on:

  • Vouchers - great in theory but no child-free time to shop so it's just another task for me.
  • "Stuff". Stuff sits in drawers or clutters my house. If I can't use the gift or wear it then it's "stuff".
