I got this stand here and it is leaking. Off course there are none in the shops.

What can I do???

I thought about putting it in a bucket or in a bin liner. Any other ideas?

how big is the hole? Can you line it somehow with foil? Or superglue hole?

Gingerbear · 21/12/2006 13:51

Bucket of wet sand? Disguise with wrapping paper.

yULeYSEES · 21/12/2006 13:52

Ive used rocks from garden before or bricks in a bucket

Avalon · 21/12/2006 13:52

Can you patch it with waterproof tape on the inside and blutak, glue, plasticine and tape on the outside?

Obviously, you might need to empty out the water first.

drosophila · 21/12/2006 13:53

Thing is the tree is fully decorated and in situ in the stand. If I filled it with sand and then wet the sand do you think that would still leak. Don't know how big the whole is as can't have a good look. It only seems to be leaking from the front.

Put the whole thing in a bucket - can you find one big enough? or use a washing up bowl.

drosophila · 21/12/2006 13:56

I have a laundry bowl that is big enough but it is too big iykwim. It would do until I find something else I guess.

Can you get to an aquarium shop that sells glue for glass tanks? That'd be waterproof.

MrsBadger · 21/12/2006 13:58

I'd get DH to lift it just a couple of inches off the floor and slip a tray / washing up bowl etc (or, as you suggest, a bucket) underneath to avoid having to take the whole thing down.

MrsBadger · 21/12/2006 13:59

laundry bowl sounds ideal - once in situ cover whole lot with wrapping paper / foil / paper tablecloth etc

drosophila · 21/12/2006 15:17

Have lined it with heavy duty plastic and then put the whole thing in plastic. I need to find a bucket big enough - 42 cm base.

Twas not easy I can tell you.

Nothing I have is big enough and noting in local shop. Plastic seems to be holding up so far.....

Pool of water now in outer plastic so deffo a temp measure. Anyone any idea of a container that might have a base of 40cm?

those bendy buckets - B&Q etc have them

sides might be a bit high though

puccaupunderthemistletoe · 22/12/2006 10:30

What about a local farm that sells xmas trees and get one of the trunk stands iykwim?, whenever i have bought a real tree it has come with a stand already attached

paulaplumpbottom · 22/12/2006 10:34

What about BOndo.

drosophila · 22/12/2006 20:13

Where are you ??

I have a spare stand, it doesn't hold water but it holds the tree very steady.

drosophila · 22/12/2006 20:17

It's ok now thanks. The stand still holds the tree very steady it was just the leak.

Is it essential to water tree????

OP posts:
SherlockLGJ · 22/12/2006 20:22

Well it will shed anyway, but it will shed like buggery without water, once the water dries up the base seals over and it is then beyond help.

It takes approx 2 hours from last drop of water to base sealing over.

drosophila · 22/12/2006 20:32

OOps better go and water it,

OP posts:
hulababy · 22/12/2006 20:34

TBH this close to Christmas I wouldn't worry too much about watering it. We have that stand and I have only thought to water the tree once in last fortnight.
