well for a start, you'd drag yourself outta bed after that late night wrapping up last minute stocking fillers, convince d's it's middle of night, and not 5.30am so back to bed... sort hang over, drink plenty of coffee and wehhey her we go... hows that for starters?

opinionsrus · 19/12/2006 21:13

You have you work cut out anyway, how about a nice soup and some decent dunking bread.

trice · 19/12/2006 21:33

I am always so full after christmas dinner I rarely have room for the pud. I really couldn't face a starter as well.

something incredibly light like a champagne sorbet would be a good bet.

MistletoeandPebblemum · 19/12/2006 22:31

We have a choice of Prawn Cocktail, fresh melon and strawberries or pate and toast when we go round MIL's. She writes menus out a week before and we all tick what we would like including veg for main course and dessert and that way she prepares the right amount of everything. Great idea if everyone likes different things and as she can cook for up to 16 of us it helps her get sorted with the least hassle

If we eat at home just the four of us i would probably only do the melon starter and buy a small ready made prawn cocktail for Dh (its his favourite and without it he would moan all day!!)

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 20/12/2006 02:06

melon, salmon or prawn cocktail as we do every year - find soup to filling!

snowydelight · 20/12/2006 13:45

DH always makes seafood pancakes in champagne sauce, yum! We usually have a break after our main course though and do cheese and pudding later.
