Next christmas, I am going to ...

OP posts:
supermariossister · 09/01/2016 16:12

Do less, stay home more! Had a massive panic attack that landed me in hospital week after Christmas and still not fully back to normal. Need to learn to say no and realise that people who want to spend time with us will regardless of where we are.

IamMissRabbit · 09/01/2016 16:27

Not compare my family Christmas with all those "perfect family" photos on FB.

heavenlypink · 09/01/2016 16:44

Hibernate with Cake and Wine

lostlalaloopsy · 09/01/2016 18:52

Cut down on the amount of trips/shows/outing that dc have - they were doing something every weekend in December and were knackered.

Try to find enthusiasm to do more baking/crafts with kids - we made a gingerbread house and that was great fun!

Buy less and easier presents for my extended family. I put a lot of effort and money into their presents, and they gave me basically bargain bin crap.

Go to the panto between Christmas and New Year to break up the days a bit. We went on 23rd Dec, but dcs could have done with some chill out time.

Try to spread opening presents throughout the day. Dd was a bit of a whirlwind and opened everything before her brother was half way through her.

Plan something fun/energetic for Hogmanay.

Buy much less for dcs - and definitely no more Lego!

VillageFete · 10/01/2016 11:56

IamMissRabbit Excellent point. Think i'll do that too.

shadowfax07 · 16/01/2016 00:10

Kill my DP if he suggests hosting AND having open house on Boxing Day and inviting everyone we know.

It was far too much work this year.

candykane25 · 16/01/2016 21:54

Worry less.
Despite my care in selecting gifts, I receive no thanks.
I bought more presents for family children than were received back so scaling down this year.
Not bitter cos I love Christmas, everything was bargainous but it was thought time and energy that wasn't necessary so have learnt for this year.

mumtoone84 · 18/01/2016 16:50

Spend less money, not that I feel I go overboard, but would just like to be more organised.

I made it early to the 70% boots sale and although I spent £70 but saved nearly £300 (very over inflated original costs) and got around 12-13 decent presents.

So come christmas I only have a couple of presents to get + DS's.

I've written down what I've bought and who is getting what. I refuse to twitch.

IceBeing · 18/01/2016 17:14

skip the whole thing I think. Christmas is seriously detrimental to the mental health of everyone in our family!

RhodaBull · 18/01/2016 17:19

The trouble is with buying presents now is that after hanging round in a cupboard for a year they will look a bit tatty. Plus some have dates written on, even if very small, and no one will thank you for a 3for2 gift set from the previous year.

Next year I will put up outside lights. Dismal effort this year as dh was out of action.

Next year I will DEFINITELY go round to the BASTARDS who had FIREWORKS on CHRISTMAS BLOODY EVE at 11pm and put a few festive fireworks up their festive backsides. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

May09Bump · 18/01/2016 17:28

Really fireworks on Christmas Eve - I would have thought every parent in a mile radius would be gunning for them.

Anyway, mine would be buying one main present and a stocking of presents per child as it worked really well this year.

Stillunexpected · 19/01/2016 13:31

Next year, I will try not to have flu right through the month of December so that I don't miss every party, outing and concert and actually enjoy the day, rather than feeling 75% and then collapsing into bed at 8.30 on Christmas Day and being ill again for three days after!

trian · 20/01/2016 10:02

hmmmm [rubs hands with glee], I need to "cheat" in my answer here because:
a.) my baby is only little, next xmas she'll be 1, so still too little to really know what's going on, so let's skip fwd 2 years as the way she's going at the mo, she'll be able to talk a bit by xmas 2017.
b.) let's also imagine that my house is refurbished to the point where i'll want to put decorations up, at the moment the refurb isn't finished

soooooo, "next" xmas i'm going to:
1.) have time to do xmas cards and new years texts as appropriate, it's such a useful way of staying in touch with people, I managed it in 2014 and loved looking at the cards I got back hung up on the wall

2.) have time to buy cheap but decent presents for everyone, this year was the first year I failed, due to birth of baby! This includes presents for my longed-for daughter who has taken over a decade to arrive!!! :-) :-)

3.) go shopping for decorations (I LOVE this)

4.) put up my decorations for the first time in years!!!

5.) plan for future xmas's with DD and extended family and friends, where i'll have more chance to do stuff as DD gets older

I've waited so long........now my life is finally getting better! I nice man would be good for xmas but that might have to wait a few years

BiddyPop · 20/01/2016 10:02

OMG - I wouldn't mind too much about fireworks on NYE - but CHRISTMAS EVE???!!!! Clearly someone has no cop on to do that!

RhodaBull · 20/01/2016 11:08

This is not the first time they have done it. There was a gap for a few years and then this past Christmas Eve there was a mega display. I was furious. People who have small dcs have probably just about managed to get them into bed (which was us a few years ago when suddenly there were massively loud fireworks waking up the dcs), and other people may relish the quiet time, for religious or just personal reasons. I'm not a killjoy by any means: I like fireworks! But on Christmas Eve... NO!!!

Iamblossom · 20/01/2016 11:27

Stay home just us 4 on Christmas Day. We were like that up until midday at it was the best part of the whole day. Peaceful, listening to music, colouring, drinking at our own pace, boys were all playing with their new stuff. We could have just carried on doing that, eating when we wanted, maybe a movie or two....sigh. MIL can visit if absolutely necessary...

It was carnage after 12pm. Sad

Buy DH more and better presents. He spoilt me. I blame it on him only having to shop for me, and I had to shop for everyone else, so had kind of lost the vibe by then...

Buy less food. I thought we were really restrained as it was, as we went away for a week on the 27th, but we had faaaaaaaaaaaaaar too much cheese, snacks, chocolate etc...

Ummmm...not sure what else...was very organised and had finished shopping pretty much by end of November.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 22/01/2016 11:04

Grin iam that's so funny I was so carried away with your description pre 12pm Grin

I hope you get a more peaceful xmas this year.

kelper · 22/01/2016 11:06

Next christmas i am going to leave the country, it's so much nicer to be in the sun on christmas day :)

Happymummy007 · 06/02/2016 16:04

Wish I was in Florida, like I was this year ....

SideOrderofChip · 06/02/2016 17:06

Do exactly the same as i did this year but hope DH isnt at work

MuttonCadet · 06/02/2016 18:28

Spend time with my family, doing the wonderful Christmassy traditions I love, rather than hosting DHs ungrateful family and watching episodes of top gear on Dave surrounded by stinky dogs.

LittleReindeerwithcloggson · 06/02/2016 23:26

Eat less
Stress less
Sleep more
Play more

jamtartandcustard · 09/02/2016 13:52

Put up more decorations. It was a bit bare.
Cook (I'm hosting! Eek!)
Get drunk!

jamtartandcustard · 09/02/2016 13:53

Ah scrap that getting drunk bit - I'll prob be working in the evening! Darn

WhatTheActualFugg · 09/02/2016 14:00

Buy the kids whatever crap they ask FC for, not whatever lovely quality toy I think is a better idea.

And NOT put the tree up until the 19th. At the earliest.
