Christmas

Oh ffs, I am a hardened cynical athiest of 43 and in any case am not hog-whimpering wild about Christmas. So why the flying fandango am I welling up shamelessly at the most naff manifestations?

I welled up at the Little Drummer Boy today, ffs

Admittedly it features in the most tearjerking episode of The West Wing, which I've watched several times, but honestly. Needless to say I sniffled into my tissues at DD1's nativity play especially when six year old Joseph told five year old Mary 'never mind, I'll look after you'.

And just don't ask about the John Lennon/Yoko Ono song.

Is intensive therapy required? I loathe Christmas. Really I do.

Had to turn off the radio in the car the other day when 'When a Child is Born' came on, as I was about to go into work, and couldn't really go in all red-eyed and sniffly. Glad I'm not alone.

I knew it was you from the thread title, too!

Well, I LOVE Christmas, and am hopelessly lost at the first sound of children singing carols etc. It's bloody New Year I can't stand, and all that sodding partying and camaraderie. Auld Lang Syne couldn't leave me colder...

I had to busy myself yesterday while dd1 watched National Velvet

just the sight of Elizabeth Taylor's hopeful little face has me sobbing in a heap

I knew this was your thread - the title was vintage classic perfect MI!

'When a Child Is Born' does it for me, too. I was at my work's Xmas do while expecting dd2 and someone requested that song for me.

Expat, 'Walking in the Air' freaks dd2 out completely, she hates it. I wonder if it's the piano in it, she has always cried at piano music since really tiny, just months old.

JackieNoHoHo · 16/12/2006 23:22

Oh blimey suedonim - I'd have been a complete sobbing wreck. Would have been fine pre-children, it's just since having kids I'm like this.

I well up to rudolph the red nose reindeer.

expatinscotland · 16/12/2006 23:45

You all need slapped!

I cry everytime I hear George Michael's 'Last Christmas'.

B/c I hated it so much when it was first released.

And now, it's being played into the ground again.

It's even more tragic this time round.

He won't have to give me his heart - I'll gladly rip it out of his chest cavity w/my bare hands and stamp on it for inflicting that song on us.

themoon66 · 16/12/2006 23:56

Someone said earlier... new year is worse... I agree. I ALWAYS nip off to the loo at 2 mins to 12 so I don't have to do the Old Lang Zine thing.... hate it.

welliemum · 17/12/2006 00:13

This thread is making me well up.

And I'm not pregnant, I promise!

Do I get a prize?

suedonim · 17/12/2006 00:15

I hate NY too. I get all maudling about another-year-gone-by-and-nothing-achieved but feel sooooo much better at 00.01hrs when I can go to bed because NY is over!

expatinscotland · 17/12/2006 00:17

I hate NY b/c then all my resolutions to swear off alcohol and fags and frivolous spending come into effect.
