... I want to spend about £12-£15 on classroom assistant/babysitter. Ages - 18 to 22 or thereabouts. Thinking about one of these and just for fun . Bad choice or OK. Teacher, by comparison, was planning on Clarins handcream. Any views? TIA

BrandyTutter · 15/12/2006 14:18

mirror: no
anything from hotel chocolat (can't see what as link ne worketh pas): oh yes

Great about the handcream. Don't worry Dinosaurmummykissingsantaclaus (phew!) ... the babysitters are friends of the family and I sort of have to spend around that ... classroom assistant around a tenner but unfortunately Hotel Chocolat seem to have sold out of their Christmas goody bags at around that price and unless she knows how nice their chocs are, then am worried it won't look enough. As a matter of interest BrandyTutter, why not mirror to go along with choc? Just curious and desparately seeking alternative now

well, I hope that £15 isn't the expected amount to spend on teachers, as dd's class has 2 teachers (part-time) and 2 classroom assistants.

Millie1 · 15/12/2006 14:24

Am I spending too much on CA?

At that age, I would prob give clothes vouchers if I was spending that much. I always spend a lot, but I never really seem to give anything they like. Rather than give up, I am going to give vouchers now!

weepootleflump · 15/12/2006 14:35

I'm off to m&s for some bath salts, I've been paining over what to get dd's nursery teachers - perfect (already have them little tinned candles as well). Thanks malory

WhenSantaWentQuietlyMad · 15/12/2006 14:38

Agree about the mirror - it is just too hard to tell if they will like it, and if not it seems like a waste.

WigWamBam · 15/12/2006 14:44

Having had to buy six presents for dd's teaching staff I have to say that spending that much on each of them would have bankrupt me! A fiver each on the three-for-twos will have to do - and even then it feels like a lot of money.

WigWamBam · 15/12/2006 14:45

Hm, the first line of my post has gone missing.

It said: I like the mirror, but it's a lot of money to spend on something that is such a personal taste.

deaconblue · 15/12/2006 14:46

How nice it must be to be a primary teacher if you get £15 pressies from all 30 kids! I was a secondary school teacher for 10 yrs prior to having ds and was lucky if the parents of the naughiest lad in class stumped up for a bottle of chardonnay!! Would have killed for a thing of clarins hand cream

Millie1 · 15/12/2006 14:49

Thanks for the advice girls! Okay, what about a Top Shop gift card for each of the babysitters which just leaves me the CA ... maybe something bathroom-y from Marks/Boots for her. And forget the chocolate ... if I'm being honest, I'd love to have a few slabs of it in the house!

deaconblue · 15/12/2006 14:50

Do the babysitters need a present? Surely they get paid every time they babysit? You guys are so generous, or do I have all this to come as ds gets older??

WhenSantaWentQuietlyMad · 15/12/2006 14:51

How old is the CA?

Millie1 · 15/12/2006 14:52

I dunno! I buy for mine cos my sister buys for them and they buy for our children so it's a bit of a never-ending circle. But they're nice girls so [shrug] emotion!

I think it's a lovely gesture, but I don't think you have to spend that much. I think that girls of 18-22 will be very grateful though, because they don't tend to have much money.

I would get something smaller for the CA unless she has particularly helped in some way. Maybe a nice bottle of wine?

frogdelalune · 15/12/2006 14:56

I've never bought dd's teachers/classroom assistants/dinner ladies/school cleaners etc etc a gift
Surely the pleasure of teaching/assisting/cooking for/cleaning up after her is enough reward

elclose · 15/12/2006 16:14

the mirror compact is lovely just linked to dh so he can get me one !!

elclose · 15/12/2006 16:15

am getting dd teachers a box of chocs or similar

Leslaki · 15/12/2006 17:59

I just send in a big tin of Quality street for the 'team' to share then a bottle of wine for the teacher/key worker for both schoola nd nursery. Am now hoping for Clarin's hand cream and gift vouchers of £15 from the 27 little darlings in my class!!!

santacutie · 15/12/2006 18:05

You are generous Millie 1 - I'd love the Clarins hand cream or anything from Hotel Chocolat - yum !
