Direct lift from a post on another thread (am I unreasonable?)

But why?

My worst one was a Delia Smith Christmas book. Someone else I know got a Dyson.

WTF? Post your bad presents here (I know this has probably been done before, but it is christmas)

Worst every presents from DH

  1. A soup tureen (to replace the one he regretted losing when he got divorced).
  2. Hideous lead crystal tumblers.
  3. Even more hideous 'arty' pottery - too ugly either to display or use.
  4. The year he 'just ran out of time - you know what it's been like' and didn't buy me a present (this was last year).

I'm not too optimistic about this year, either!

I should add that he's a wonderful, loving DH. He has also bought me some beautiful and imaginative presents over the years He just sometimes loses the plot over present-buying.

PinkTinsel · 14/12/2006 23:41

i've asked for a cook book as a present

dp refuses to pick my presents. i shop for myself and he wraps (badly). i swap that for a crappy present he actually had to put effort in and choose any day!

whatwouldjesusdo · 14/12/2006 23:41

yes, fair enough caligula

by the same token, diy stuff is ruled out for men, then.

Although I'm quite crap at DIY and would probably quite appreciate something like this

whatwouldjesusdo · 14/12/2006 23:45

UD, I wouldnt buy that, in case it was interpreted as nagging!

I might buy it for myself, and leave it lying around the house though.

SnowMuchToBits · 14/12/2006 23:46

If I get anything at all this year I think I will be doing well, as dh is too busy and "stressed" to do any shopping/think of anything to do with Christmas.

I don't mind too much, but he just doesn't join in much with all the fun that ds (aged 6 ) has.

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 14/12/2006 23:51

I'm giving dh a 1902 copy of Mrs Beeton's complete cookbook, complete with turn of the century adverts and plates

I am giving him various other bits too....book of the Darwin Awards, grow-your-own-four-leaf-clover kit, mediaeval illuminated script board game, so far

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 14/12/2006 23:57

SHB, what did you say?!

HollyandMistletoeforever · 15/12/2006 00:01

It has been suggested that my one may be a potential winner.

For my birthday, many years ago, my EX DP got me.......

...... a frisbee.

fatwoman · 15/12/2006 00:03

in the interests of balance dh reminded me the other day of one of my finer moments. I bought him a long-sleeved tshirt which shrank on its first wash. "I don't know what you're making such a fuss about", I said, "It was only cheap".

Over the years dh has bought me a rather nice piano and a 99p salt pot.

Despite strong competition from Oldiemum and Hollyandmistletoeforever, Sallyhollyberry has broken away from the crowd and taken a convincing lead...

DP bought me a CD walkman about a few years ago. To say it was an "impulse buy" is an understatement. He went out on Christmas Eve at about 5pm to get it....I truly wished he hadnt bothered.....and couldnt fathom my disappointment on Christmas morning when I saw it (IIRC he hadnt had time to wrap it either.....)

He's not so great at the present thing.....

This year, for my 30th - my parents asked him if he thought I might like a surprise party - so he promptly came and asked me what I thought......

I can understand disappointment at the non-wrapping and tardiness, but a CD walkman is a pretty good present, isnt it? At least, it was in the days before iPods...

oranges · 15/12/2006 00:11

Unquietdad, are you really as good at presents as you say you are?

I suppose it all depends on the person. if you have a DW who likes music and buys a lot of CDs, then a CDwalkman would be good. If you don't, it's not.

Ok - judge me!

Presents (of all sizes) which I have bought for DW in the past include:
Catherine Tate DVD
Marian Keyes, Jane Green etc. novels
Duran Duran Greatest Hits CD
Desperate Housewives book (the big coffee-table one)
Silk scarves
Dressing-gown (sexy one, not towelling grandma thing)
Weekend in France.

myrrhthamoo · 15/12/2006 00:26

Not read the thread but I bet I win.

Have received, variously..

a jar of beetroot
a battery charger
a flashcard for my camera
a gorilla skin (well, not a real gorilla - a black fake fur throw - it does feel nice but it makes anywhere I put it look like a tart's boudoir)

And my Mum got me a frying pan one year.

Actually, I'm really depressed now.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/12/2006 00:27

I dont, lol!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/12/2006 00:29

I got a juicer, 2 years in a row from the same brother.
